buddhist dharma says (and other religions too), "put a end to desires", "and dont cling, to anything." ok, so #1.) for me, smoking weed is a big desire, but if i dont cling to the experience, just enjoy it as it is, would that go against the teachings. and what about when i actually go buy more weed then, Is that an act driven SOLEY out of desire??

heheh, sounds like one of the many contradictions that have driven me insane...
i'd have to simply say YES, you desire marijuana to make you feel good can you deny this?
myself, i just accept that desire and think about the good things that come out of it (creative inspiration, loving thoughts)
i think instead of trying to just nix all your desires you should try and balance them out in harmonic moderation. isnt the outright denial of all these possessions just seem like your trying to find a shortcut to enlightenment? there must be a more sensible way, take it in stride

I think if we achieved a desireless state, you wouldn't need or want weed.... or much of anything else.

Would breath be considered a desire in such a state? Is it possible to sustain life in a human body without just a little bit of desire?

but don't forget that you are human... we all have desires, just don't let them control you. and don't forget that wishing to be without desire is also a desire

This used to drive me crazy too. If you feel you are attached to something or if you arent sure just lay off of whatever it is for a while, if you have a hard time with this than it is a good way to tame the ego. you dont have to quit anything, just dont let it control you. as you grow spiritually you may find that the thing you think you needed or even took in moderation after this practice is of no use to you anymore. good luck and always use your own judgement.

i think we need nothing...
In reply to:

that could be interpreted as a need, but i think it is not up to ones head to decide... it is the wish of the soul to be in the body and experience... the desireless master sees this and understands that it is the souls desire to experience just this state of mind... so well i guess there is no real desireless state... not for the soul anyways...

beautiful! That pretty much sums up this thread right there, I think If we're gonna live, desires are just something we'll have to learn to live with isntead of completely denying and ignoring them.
