It isn't about substance, but about showing no regard for the "no personalisms" rule, not to mention that it pretty much constitutes flaming as well. If you did not feel that the original post did not outline a philosophical or spiritual topic for discussion, then utilize the "notify moderator" function, instead of choosing to break the rules, or better yet, deconstruct his point of view in a constructive manner.
