I see that you are content with your indoctrination. I am finished with indoctrination since I am perfectly aware of the historical roots of theological constructs and their primarily political agenda. You my young friend, have much to unlearn before you are ready for any real Initiation into the Mystery.

www.markosthegnostic.org Perhaps you'd be interested in my stories, perhaps not. I'd start at the profile and go to the oldest post first. Or not.

There are so many things that your Catholic education never did or never will teach you. Add to this the anti-Semitism taught by Roman Catholicism and you will hopefully come to understand just WHY Jews never embraced a Greek demigod (of a god and a mortal woman) as the Christ or Messiah. Jesus the Jew is not taught in Catholic catechism. I went through Catholic catechism myself when I was baptized in the RC Church , just before I entered a Methodist seminary for two years. Now, I've had a full 30 years after seminary to complete much of my religious education.

I'm not in any way limited to only studying Catholic theology.

You must have been catechized in a VERY different church than I was. It was VERY liberal. They taught us that Jesus was ABSOLUTELY a Jew. In fact, they thought this point was so important that we spent over two years before our catechism studying ONLY judaism: the philosophies, a little hebrew, the traditions, the history of judaism, ancient judaic geography, etc. We read the Torah and the entire Old testament, and we only spent a few months on the new Testament itself.

There was absolutely NOTHING anti-semitic about my education. It was hammered home again and again that the Romans killed Jesus, not the Jews. We were taught that the Jews were our sisters and brothers, that they were absolutely God's Chosen people.

There was a synagogue down the street from our church and it was rather small. On high holy days we allowed their congregation to worship in our church and took down all the crosses and religious artifacts.

Our priest also told members of the church that they should decide what was best for themselves on the issue of birth control. The church is changing man. I'm not currently a Catholic and will never set foot in another Catholic church but I don't believe I was in any way miseducated. I deeply value the religious education I received and I think it has made me a better person.

I'm not in any way indoctrinated. All I tried to do was explain the Catholic beliefs about Sophia to clear up the misunderstanding. I am a Gnostic, a Buddhist, a Hindu, and a little bit Lutheran (but only a little). I do not in ANY WAY consider myself Catholic.

Edit: I'm not going to bother reading your stories. It's obvious you're not well-endowed with wisdom yourself if you go around insulting people and jumping to conclusions. I don't know why you would take it upon yourself to insult me when I was simply trying to explain a post I made.

Well, then I stand corrected in some points. I do not identify with theology of any religion because all theology is intellectualization of primordial religious experience. If you believe that mere ideas have made you a better person then I would disagree as to the source of your development. Human development is always bettered by increased Compassion, nothing more or less. Ideas are attempts to cookie-cut an indivisible Reality into conceptual thought. At best it is incorrect and at worst it is behind bigotry, pogroms, persecutions, crusades and inquisitions.

I thoroughly agree with one point however: I too will never set foot in another Catholic Church. Cologne Cathedral was my last - particularly after I followed up my visit with some history about the near immolation of Meister Eckhart, one of the greatest mystics of all time.

Your church is unusually tolerant and compassionate. very unusual, but highly commendable!

It is not the ideas they taught me that made me a better person. It was the tolerance and understanding they gave me of all religions.

I wouldn't call it "my church". I haven't set foot in the place since I was 15. I refuse to go on moral grounds.

Awakened? Going back from where? That seems illusionary to me.

We are born on a path, all of us, the journey is something everyone takes. We all manage to learn a few things, some maybe more than others and that is the only difference that I can really see. No one is really awakened IMO.

It's a major difference to the individual. But does that make someone more or better than another? There is no evidence for this except by human standards of morality. In the Tao it's all the same in the end. Folk who believe that they can choose a path that is fundamentally different than any other human are delusional IMO. They don't know who or what they are and are caught up in the woolly cotton fluff of a self serving (to the ego/personality) belief system.

And you know, if this is all there was to it...  We'd be through with it.:uptosomething:

definitely not, that sounds like a superiority complex.

but if one has been taking a path of developing awareness for 20 years, and another has been taking the path of solidifying his thought patterns and habits for the same amount of time, the way these two people perceive the world is going to be quite different.

No one is really awakened IMO.

but some are more awake than others.  just as we can become more awake in dreams, we can become more awake in the waking state.  sure there may be no ultimate awakening we can attain, but it's probably productive to keep in mind that there's always more wakefulness to wake up to, and that the illusion of being awake is always there to misguide and distract us.  which of course you brought up earlier

We all think we're special, based on different things. You're the Cynic philosopher of the 21st century located on the Shroomery. It characterizes your specialness to a large extent from the perspective of readers. I'm whatever I am to other readers, and just as consistantly special in my own way. These are the respective flavors of each of our egos - each of our special selves.
What's yer point? That your specialness includes telling everyone that nobody is special? That's your own specialness talking.
