Okay, but LSD (assuming this is what you're referring to, mostly) became illegal because it started to gain popularity. This happens with most drugs, doesnt it?

Perhaps the sort of thinking you mentioned had some influence on its legality but it seems like a weak reason on its own. IMO, atleast.

Just making an effort to bring to light how annoying prejudice can be. Sometimes its hard to give a deep reply to such a shallow one. Believing that the government was actually trying to protect us by outlawing LSD is the kind of conclusion they sell to fund the war on drugs.

Nobody (well... almost nobody...) here is pretending LSD is a magic chemical which makes a first time user relentlessly rebel against society- but it's more than obvious that many users of LSD "spontaneously" began to take notice of many of the flaws in society. It would be very hard to try and dismiss this as coincidence, even from a purely statistical point of view.

If you go watch some documentaries about how illegalization of even harder drugs like cocaine and opium came about, I have a feeling you will be surprised. If the government was trying to keep people from hurting themselves, nobody would be selling tobacco legally today, that's for sure.

Ah, yes.

You should know that as a small time user, I don't really consider there to be any real laws against drugs.

I'm not a very political person, all I really care about are the people in my life and chemistry.
