Wow.. there's so much misinformation around here it hurts. To anyone who is interested, please take a look at the following links:

New York Grand Lodge
Scottish Rite Grand Lodge, Southern Jurisdiction
Scottish Rite Northern JurisdictionThe York Rite
The Shriners

There are also several other masonic groups, including the Philalethes Society and the Grand College of Rites.

That's not including DeMolay, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Jesters, etc. There's plenty of information freely available out there. Please do some research before judging a fellow man.

I am guilty of thread-bumping. This is a topic that I find interesting, searched for, and didn't check the date on.

As for uninformative links, I'm sorry you feel that way. The official web pages of each organization are about as informative as you're going to get without becoming a Mason yourself, as no Brother is able to reveal the specifics of any of the Rites in which he participates. I'd highly suggest contacting anyone at any one of those sites, most Masons would be more than willing to answer most of your questions.

Both valid points. However, those links are good places to learn about what Masonry actually is.

That's fair, I like to play that myself. I'll say this much- the average Freemason is over 60 years old, likes to drink beer with lodge buddies, and the closest he gets to a conspiracy is holding a BBQ fundraiser. If there were any real secrets, the majority of masons aren't aware of them. That being said, I'd love to know what the Knights Templar Commandary or the Council of 33's talk about behind closed doors.

Is there potential for conspiracy fodder in Masonry? Yes.
Are most masons elite, political power-wielding reptilloids from another planet? Not so much.

I think the most honest statement ever released to the public by a Masonic institution is "Masonry is what you make of it."

It's fairly safe to assume there is far more corruption among the members in your local church, than your local lodge.

This is all well and good.. except considering the top of the hierarchy in the Masons are the bottom of the pyramid of the Illuminati.

Freemasons, for the most part, seem to be good, upstanding people looking to better themselves and the community and world in which they live. They contribute to many charities and organizations dealing with the treatment of specific diseases. The Shriners (think funny red hats and small cars) who help with children's hospitals are involved in Freemasonry.

Now, if you go by the bible and believe that bad things will have bad fruit and good things will have good fruit, then Freemasonry seems to be a very noble and worthwhile society. Personally though.. part of me thinks it (the good stuff) is a front for all the inner workings (ie. world control, etc.). I do know though, that there are millions of Freemasons in the world and in America there are supposedly 10,000 33rd degree masons.

And just to throw it into the pot.. lol.. the book I am reading on Freemasonry right now was bound in Dubai. Make of it what you will. Never seen any other books from there before.

Shroomism- do you have any information you can provide to back up that statement?  Also, what do you consider the top of the Masonic pyramid?  Considering the significance of symbolism throughout Freemasonry I'd be very interested to hear your perception of the arrangement of the appendant bodies.  If you mean to imply that the Shriners are the top, that is a frequent misconception- up until a few years ago it was required that an applicant was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason OR a Knight Templar, so it developed an air of elitism.  However, now a man only need be a Master (third degree) Mason to join the Shrine.  They were, for a time, considering opening up a public Rite to increase their membership.  In addition to that, the Royal Order of Jesters is a group made up of those who lead each of the Shrines.  I'll admit that I don't know very much about the Jesters.

If you meant that either the Scottish or York Rites were the top, please, by all means suggest that to them!   I'm sure both groups have very different opinions.

Scottsdale- there are between 1.5 and 2 million Freemasons in the United States, of which approximately 10,000 are 33rd degree.  Only a very small number of people are awarded this honorary degree (which you cannot pursue or ask for, you must be granted by the Council of 33rds for outstanding performance in Masonry or contributions to society).

I don't doubt many Freemasons are good upstanding people who are looking to better the world around them.. have known a few myself. However from a realistic perspective, they are merely the bottom of the chain (and to a large extent.. completely ignorant of) a much greater structure that does not have such a benevolent mission.

Again, what do you base that perspective on? The fact that they are a so-called secret society with many separate organizations that you're aware of, so they must have more that you aren't? That seems speculative if nothing else.

Are you familiar with the Sovereign Military Order of Malta? Also known as the Pope's private army? Would you then say that the local preacher is an unwitting member of a larger, malevolent mission?

I fully support holding any beliefs that you deem realistic. I'm not so fond of impressing beliefs upon others without claim.

I do not think the Shriners are on the top, no.. but near the top of the Masonic structure.
I think the "basic" structure of the Illuminati as a whole probably looks something like this:

Which would most likely put groups like the Bilderberger Group, Council on Foreign Relations, Trilateral Commission, etc.. near the top. However I am reasonably sure they themselves answer to a higher power. It is hard to say exactly who is at the "top". The rule of thumb is that those on the lower end of the spectrum are completely clueless about what goes on above them.

There is plenty of evidence to be found, however much of it is intentional disinformation and propaganda purposely meant to mislead. Being a secret society in the first place whose main purpose is to keep true knowledge concealed, it would be quite hard indeed to 'prove' beyond a reasonable doubt how their internal power structure works, until more hard facts are brought into the public light. So in the meantime, research and a critical eye for details and discernment of truth is key. However leaked info from "former 33rd degree masons and former organizers within the Illuminati" may be of some use - http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/part2.htm
http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/part3.htm
http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/part4.htm

The Knights of Malta/Order of Malta are indeed a major player in this structure, near the top of the pyramid of power within Freemasonry. (http://aftermathnews.wordpress.com/category/illuminati/) as is the Roman-Catholic Church as a whole. I would in fact go so far as to say that the local preacher is more or less an unwitting member of a larger, malevolent mission, however that is not to say that all preachers are malevolent, most are probably only doing what they think is "right". But so is the Illuminati. However what is "right" is in the Eye of the Beholder. Their mission is ultimately the New World Order, which involves a One World government, of which they have ultimate control over.
http://educate-yourself.org/nwo/

The actual structure of the Masons looks more like this:

and that those in the highest levels of Masonry are probably in the lower echelon of the Illuminati structure.

Re: freemasons [Re: Shroomism]

This is a conversation without a resolution.  The first pyramid image is quite interesting, though I doubt it relates to Freemasonry in any way.  The links to David Icke are, unfortunately, not a very credible source.  Icke is the man who brought the idea of a reptilloid race interacting with aliens to control the progress of the human race.  Then again, maybe that's what the Illuminati is- obviously most of the public will never know.  The 33rd degree initiation is, from what I understand, fairly accurate, although Jim Shaw  is a born-again extremist.  Finally, Baphomet has ZERO place in Masonry.  Nor does Baal, or Lucifer.

But one thing is apparent, we've both done our research.  Let's agree to disagree on this topic, ok?

For the average Joe looking to improve himself and his community, I think you could do a lot worse than joining a Blue Lodge, or even a Scottish or York Rite.  By the same token, the same person could join a church, temple, etc. or local government organization, and probably never take part in a satanic plot.

Although I do have a question for you- if there is such an extensive network of evil, is there a polar opposite?  What constitutes the greater forces of human good?  That'd be a secret society to aspire to membership in, no?

We can indeed agree to disagree. I'm relatively sure neither one of us have it completely right. It's probably somewhere in the middle.

As for a completely benevolent group... there are many organizations with such a purpose of greater good.. however none that I am aware of with such great power and influence as the Illuminati.

I'm starting one.. want to join? There is no hierarchy.

We shall be known as... the LUMINATI! With the purpose of spreading knowledge instead of supressing it. Informing and educating the public.

nice graphics.  the first one is from Fritz Springmeir, and although I really enjoy his work, lots of it is pure fantasy.  His idea of the pyramid is agreeable conceptually, but not in reality.

The other chart is accurate, but misleading.  after the third degree, all other degrees (such as the scottish rite, york rite) are lateral degrees - in that you are not moving up on any level, but sideways.
