Whaaa... I don't think the answer "Killing X... is it fair to X?" is ever answerable with "Yes." The key words are "to X". "Killing Hitler... is it fair to Hitler?" Hitler says no! Jews et al say ehhh, maybe, yeah, seems fair to us.

Anyway, what it comes down to is that "Life isn't fair. It's just fairer than death, that's all."

Haw haw.

Death and life are both 100% fair: everyone gets a chance to experience both.

But it is life-time  between birth and death that most people find unfair.

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein

i dunno.. i have mixed thoughts also. i always think and hesitate if i ever do kill a bug. i have killed bugs in the past but i rarely have for a very long time. ive never killed anything else. with bugs ive thought about consciousness and how they dont really have the intelligence or knowledge of self and so on and they dont live very long anyway and it doesnt really matter.. but at the same time i feel like i shouldnt do it and many times i do not do it and yeah i dunno...

Life on earth as compared to heaven, marketed by their theologians. That's how they are exploited, give up this life, it is unfair, pray to Lord, surrender to him.

IMO, the very act of comparing gives rise to the unfair feeling.

I think "fair" is a notion that is pretty confused to begin with. Broken down, I think it refers to equity, in which case Veritas hit the nail on the head. Technically it means "nice" or "agreeable", though... and well, that's definitely pretty subjective.

So, back to the start, I'm going to say that it is fair to be a human killing a bug, and unfair to be a bug killed by a human. From the third-party perspective, whether it is fair or unfair probably depends upon whether your jury is comprised of people (who will tend to side with the human), Republicans (who will convict either way, on principle), or nasty ole cock-a-roaches (who will side with the bug, despite having everything else in common with the Republicans).
