Killing a bug!

Is it fair to the bug?

Say a bug was bugging a person in its own house, that one had built all by oneself.
One might then argue; that the person has more right to be there, than the bug.

So one can kill it, as it is intruding ones space.

But, what if the bug does not know one are there, much less; that it is that persons home.

Has it not then the very same right to be there?

If it was a bug that could harm the person, and the person knew by experience that the majority, if not all of that ‘kind’ of bug, had an –maybe unknown to the bug- intention to harm you, like, say a mosquito, … then I would say it is fair to harm the bug, before it harms the person, or your small children e.g. …

If the bug on the other hand, has no way of harming one, and that is for certain, I see no reason to kill the bug. Nor any ways of justifying it, without claiming to have a greater right than the bug, or any animal, plant, etcetera…

Be it a persons had built a home, the persons home still would be in a shared home/word with the bug, which was created/built not by the person, nor the bug, yet on a way, by both! …and then some! :wink:

I have mixed thought on this topic.

What do you think justify killing another creature/creation of any kind?

Seriously, though, more and more I have come to think that it is always unfair to intentionally end another creature's experience of reality.  Deliberately removing consciousness from the Universe is a :nono:

When I see a bug around my house, my first instinct is to cock back in preparation to give it a good thwak. But then I stop myself. Not sure why really. I guess it made me feel guilty when I followed through in the past and killed them.

Spiders are great, I never even think to kill one. But it's a hell of a lot harder to let a centipede/silverfish glide away without giving it a good chase. They are so weird. gross

In general, I kill the mosquitoes biting me, or any other bugs that may be biting me, and flies if they are in my home....
Both can have pretty nasty germs/diseases to spread to YOU....  Parasitic bugs SUCK....  (Literally...! :tongue:)

If they have the right to bring on biological warfare on me, I am gonna~ fight the fight....!

Well if they're biting you then anything goes. When the bug starts it, you can be justified to end it.

Keep on fighting the good fight. But only if they instigate.

Every once in a while a spider will run across the floor of my room. I'm ok with that, so long as they leave me alone. :tongue2: Besides, they're eating all the other bugs up so I don't have to worry about them.

It always annoys me a little bit when I'm with someone and they smash a bug on the ground without a second thought or with no reason. Sometimes a winged insect will get stuck inside my car, buzz around on the windshield.. I always try to roll down my window and scoop them outside, as opposed to killing them.

It is my personal goal to integrate myself with my surroundings as much as I can. There is no reason to kill, after all, we're all just insects buzzing around on the inside of someone else's windshield. :tongue2:

Fruit flies are a pain in the ass. Therefore, I kill. Anything bigger/in small quantities I won't.

I know y'all are right!  But I live in the south and have to deal with bugs in quantities you don't see in the west.  I still try to help a wasp exit my house by opening a door.  Spiders don't bother me too much either.

But, with small children the rules change.  Live and let live does not work with fire ants, black widows and brown recluses, all of which we have plenty of here.  So when they make their presence known I annihilate to the best of my abilities.  Yes, this might affect my karma but when you are dealing with a child that has about 30 fire ants biting or stinging him you declare war!  :minigun:

Gomp, I want you to read this... There are basically two forms of life on this planet. Those that produce energy through photosynthesis and those that are the parasites of those creatures who use photosynthesis.

You and I, all the animals, fungi and most protozoa owe our lives completely and utterly to plants, algea and plankton.

In that sense I do not feel nearly the remorse or sadness over the death of an animal as I do over the death of a plant, for selfish reasons. Personally I see these other animals for the most part as our competitors. They are here to fight for the same energy source that we depend upon.

If I had my way I would personally kill many animals because I feel that most animals do not serve the human race. We are in fact in conflict right now though we do not realize it. We take away their homes and livelihood... they certainly know who we are and they don't like us.

I find it infuriating that we spend so much thought on endangered animal species such as bengal tigers... do you know what these creatures are capable of? They fucking eat other animals... alive! I don't give a shit if that's "natural" it sucks for the animal who is shredded to death--end of story.

Should you kill insects in your home? I don't see any point if they aren't interfering with you. But I also don't think you should make any special effort not to kill them.

Life and death is about exchange of energy. Where an abundance of energy grows it is usually balanced out in some way. Balance is the key. You would hopelessly fuck the ecosystems if you killed all the animals. They have a very reciprocal relationship with the plants.

True story about a bug. When I was young and obnoxious, I was at a friends house in the back sitting at the pool. There was a tiny spider walking across the deck. Being obnoxious, I grabbed a thin leaf and poked the spider. It jumped back and stopped in it's tracks. I poked at it again, this time it held it's ground and tried to bite the leaf. I poked at it again, and to my suprise, it jumped onto the leaf and was about half way to my hand before I dropped it. I decided to leave the spider alone, but I had pissed it off by that point. It started moving twards my foot. When it was a few inches away, I picked my foot up and moved it to the other side of the spider. The spider turned around and continued twards my foot. I picked my foot up and placed it back where it was at first, and the spider, again, turned and started walking twards my foot. This kinda freaked me out so I got up. I went inside, got a drink and came back out a few minutes later. The spider was sitting on the arm of the chair, waiting for me. I looked closely and it was looking directly at me. I wouldn't think a spider would have that much intelligence, much less the balls to try and fight something thousands of times it's own size.

Wrong. Most of the available energy on this planet is in the form of chemical compounds formed through photosynthesis. We take this energy. Our life and death is about how much energy we can take, not exchange.

For the most part they don't. Flowering plants only evolved 125 million years ago and throughout most of the history of life on this planet, heterotrophs (thats us) consumed autotrophs (plants, etc) with no benefit to the autotroph.

Some animals do have benefits. I have nothing against them.
