what economic impact would ending the war have for the US?

A few years ago, i had 3 buddies who got back from their first tour of Afghanistan and Iraq and they each had about 20 grand saved up for being over there.
The first thing they all did was buy badass cars.

Now, none of them were married or had ambitions to do so, but i imagine that when the war is ended (sorry, conflict...) that there will be an economic boom from all these guys coming home with wads of cash saved up.

Financially, I hope the war doesnt end for atleast another year and a half so that they will create a sellers market so I can sell my house for prime prices.

oh well, anyway, what are your thoughts on this?

Well, we spend about 2 billion a week on the Iraq war. So, that figure would disappear. But, there are things to think about:

1. How much would it cost to pull our troops out (billions and billion probably)?
2. If a sectarian conflagration occurred where Middle Eastern oil facilities were destroyed then the price of oil would spike and there would be serious ramifications for our economy.

You want to know how your friends saved up 20 grand? Because they hardly had any chances to spend it. Thats all. You don't have to pay to live, eat, or fight. Your just getting a paycheck albeit small.

They are still getting well under 30k a year, i bet money on it. If you want me to prove it i can. Easy just go look at military pay charts for single soldiers are your friends rank.. add on 400$ for hardship duty and danger pay, and overseas pay.

Still that is relatively low to the rest of the jobs on the population, that are far less dangerous.

Quite a bit of people spend that yearly, just not in a month or two period, as when soldiers get back.

But that little amount of money won't play much into are economy.

Though war does help economy, but not in that way.

Would it really cost billions of dollars to pull the troops out?

The impact of these returning soldiers is not likely to be felt on the housing market for a while after they return, if ever. And they don't really exist in anywhere near the numbers of the WW2 soldiers. Sorry. You'd be better off worrying about keeping interests rates where they are. Mortgage rates go up and more of the same dollar goes to the bank than to the seller.

Probably. Think of all of the logistics and manpower involved in removing bases, equipment, and thousands of soldiers out of a country.

I doubt it would cost $2b a week indefinitely to get them out, however.

I got a fixed rate.

i mean, everyone sees that the housing market ebbs and flows, just like almost every single other economic entity. Right now, we are in a pretty big slump.... and usually after big slumps, come big booms.
I bought at a fairly low point, and by the time I am ready to sell this house, the boom should be coming.

Your rate doesn't matter when you sell. That loan is over. What matters is the buyers rate. If he can afford $1,000 a month and the rate is low he can pay more in the purchase price. If it goes up he can't pay as much to purchase the house. Over-simple but generally true.

The war won't end when the US troops leave these countries. Extremists would take over and start attacking other countries.
