If you read some of the other threads regarding PF, "Operation Pipe Dreams", etc., than it becomes evident that Bush is no longer giving ppl the benefit of the doubt -- which we have taken for granted -- in cases where the law is ambiguous. This will open the door to all kinds of arbitrary legal action against totally innocent ppl, with the intent of seizing their property in order to finance military expansionism and tax cuts for the super-rich. Those morning glories on your fence are a controlled substance; and the authorities can choose to start enforcing it on a whim.

Incorrect.

Since the end of World War II it has been an almost universally accepted fallacy by the economically credulous that "War is good for business" when the reverse is in fact the case. Before World War II, and the massive government intervention in the economy through monetary manipulation policies and various other shenanigans classified as fraud when the average citizen attempts them, every businessman knew the truth -- war is bad for business.

The only businesses which benefit from wars are those whose sole customers are governments -- defense contractors, in other words. While some of these contractors do employ quite a few people, the defense industry constitutes a small fraction of any nation's economy. Every other business sector loses, because wars are waged using tax dollars. Of course these days there are other ways to raise money than simply increasing taxes immediately: deficit spending (which only delays the problem, with accumulating interest making it worse with each day that passes), or running the printing presses day and night at the mint (which devalues currency -- and YOUR savings account). All three alternatives are BAD for the economy -- there's no way around it.

National economies thrive when the productive effort of the populace is used to CREATE wealth -- either goods or services -- not when it is used to DESTROY wealth (and producers). It doesn't take much intellectual sophistication to understand this concept. Once one grasps that an entire sector of industry funded solely by tax dollars produces nothing other than enormously expensive products whose sole purpose is to vanish (i.e. a cruise missile or a hydrogen bomb) leaving nothing behind, it becomes clear that in terms of creating wealth it would be better to take that same money and toss it into the boiler at the nearest electrical generating plant.

Yeah but oil prices are liable to drop quite a bit, taking a load of every american's pockets and allowing them to spend a little more money..

They will decline from their current high prices, sure. But you have to remember that one of the main reasons they have spiked to current levels is due to war (or rumors of war) in the first place. Will they decline below 2001 or 2000 prices? Unlikely.

Even if there is a temporary minor drop in the price of oil, it would take decades for the costs of the war to be recovered.

As the recent article I posted on the economic reasons behind the war showed, there are two ways to get out of this downward spiral. Spend on infrastructure and helping the people of your own country like the new deal saved America in the 30's, the other is war.

Since there's no way in hell the current elite are going to spend anything on helping the people of the country, the only politically acceptable solution is to go blow the fuck out of some poor country that can't fight back.
