Any colors other than the color of the substrate is probably contamination. You'll be able to recognize it when you see it. And of course you can re-sterilize your jars if you see contamination, just empty the contents, give it a good wash w/soap and water, then sterilize in water or pressure cooker.

Most colors of contamination are green or blue, mostly darker colors. Just don't throw them away if you see white, that's your mycelium starting to grow.

Also, when mycelium turns light orange or yellow, it's probably not contam: that's what happens when it's waterlogged. Just let it do its thing.

to sterilize your jars after you've had a contam wash it with bleech, then use soap and water after that. Some contams can withstand ordinary dish soap.
