I believe it is an inherent property in females, generally. I can't speak for all but women generally are more emotional and go by instincts more than males. Males are generally more rational and cold.

I believe male driven society and culture is attempting to dumb down women to a great degree... its a subconscious power thing.

That's exactly what would happen in a society which would be ruled by women, they would try to dumb men... also a subconscious power thing

I understand what you're saying. The core of all of us is the same, but biologically that isn't true. We're opposite sides of the same coin. We compliment each other.

If women were physically stronger than men, then Friends (and don't get me wrong here, I'm fully in favour of executing the people responsible for that series) would be about a bunch of pathetically weak minded females, dancing to the tune of some retarded men, rather than the other way round.

You generalize, but which cultures are you referencing? Are you speaking in terms of your personal experience and of the women and men you have encountered in your life? It is important to remember that we exist in a culture that has dominated the globe, so if our personality traits appear universal is that really a testament to thier inherent universality or is that a product of colonization and enculturation? I am willing to bet that your generalizations are based upon members of the dominant society. When one uses one's own culture as a primary or sole reference of 'how things are' than they are bound to miss out on the incredible diversity and variety of human expression and experience.

You also state that you'd rather your managers were compassionate females than war battered old fogies... I don't know about you, but I've known some pretty ruthless women. History has a few to mention as well. How about Boudicca - she led an uprising of her people (the Iceni) against Roman invasion and on her orders they slaughtered 70,000 Romans, sparing none. Men, women and children. They burned 3 cities to the ground before they were eventually defeated. She's my hero.

I think it gets tricky when you try to identify when in history women were "dominant," because it's usually just a matter of them having different gender roles than in other societies.  In ancient Egypt, for example, women dominated the priesthood, but they still lacked political power.  I think an easier determination is whether a society is more egalitarian, or if it has strict gender roles.

Honestly, what I have seen most (as very general personal observations thru life),
is that women are more emotionally sensitive, and make more decisions based on their emotions - from the heart chakra....
And men, are less emotionally sensitive, and make less decisions based on their emotions - more-so from the crotch chakra....
Perhaps the general gender roles are determined by instinct, as well as learned thru mimicking family traditions....

It still generally seems more prevalent as the "traditional" nurturer/provider role relationship....  :yinyang:
Well, if people didn't get so many divorces....!

Of course. All things that exist, assume different property's. If you were to plot out different objects' property's you would find the graph to look like a bell curve.

I'm just saying most women tend to be more nurturing and more emotional than males. This to me is obvious. Otherwise you'd see more female animals eating their offspring (like you do with males). Some women are manly, some men are womanly... some men are now women, some women are now men (through operations ).

I don't know about this whole notion that prehistoric populations were segregated into opposing forces along gender lines, with one gender dominant some times and the other dominant at other times.  I'm not sure if you're fully aware of how babies are made, but suffice it to say that a population needs to consist of both males and females if it's going to be viable over a period of time longer than one generation.  If the two gender-groups weren't remaining distinct from one another (as would seem reasonable to assume, to my mind at least), than the dominance of a particular gender would be the work of the roles that individuals of a particular gender were obligated to fill.  If one's societal function gave one control over the group's resources or the material or spiritual governance of the group, than that bloke could easily be said to be in charge.  However, all members of a functional early society are fulfilling some sort of obligation, be it acquiring food or raising children or what-have-you, and all of these tasks are of equal importance to the success of the group.  Some tasks garner more respect and admiration from the group at large, but that doesn't diminish the importance of other tasks.  I think early societies were too busy trying to survive to get wrapped up in inter-gender squabbles and power struggles.

"I believe male driven society and culture is attempting to dumb down women to a great degree... its a subconscious power thing."
-- Psyka

For sure, there are elements of this society which is dominated at the higher halls of power by men that try to dumb women down.  The pervasive view implicit in a lot of what you see on tv or read in magazines is that women are nice to look at and should focus all their attention and efforts on making themselves as 'attractive' as possible.  Mind you, most depictions of men you come across in the media portrays them as either sex-crazed pathological liars or sports-crazed lazy simpletons, neither of which are usually shown as intelligent.  Nobody aims their programming or advertisements to appeal to the best in people, because the apparent demographic reality is that you do a lot better going for the lowest common denominator and that addressing anything in an intelligent manner just alienates most people.  I like to believe that's not true.

An example of this sort of thing would be that obnoxious ad, either for trucks or for beer, I forget which, that features a bunch of 'icons of masculinity' composed largely of country singers, actors and professional atheletes sitting around a table deciding 'man rules'.  In the ad that really got my goat, they're discussing what the man-rule should be if, while at a bar, a male friend of yours is bringing back a bunch of beer from the bar and (shock, gasp) his finger goes down slightly into the neck of your open bottle of beer while he's carrying it.  The consensus is that the 'defiled' beer is to be disgarded.  I feel that not only appeals to a sort of 'eww, man-germs!' homophobia but also is a striking example of wastefulness.  To my mind, an actual masculine response to such prissy-pants worrying as is depicted in the ad would be 'suck it up, buttercup and drink your fucking beer!' but maybe that's just me.

Anyhow, I don't see that there's such a difference between men and women, aside from the obvious

It is my own personal belief that females played the dominant role in early society. That at the earliest stages of civilizations they developed weapons and stayed in highly organized groups before males and in doing so had a serious advantage. I believe that they were the first ones to discuss spiritual intuitions and were regarded as shamans before males.

Over time, worldly knowledge and brute strength prevailed making the physically strongest the most superior. I believe females still have a higher sense of intuition and a deeper connection with emotions than us males.

I'd doubt that as well, although to be honest I don't know a lot about the Mongol Empire. Every bit of analysis I've come across, however, suggests that all mass societies (states, empires, etc.) have been more or less patriarchal. In civilizations where women dominate the religion, they still tend to be cut out of politics.

Although it is always open to interpretation it seems to be commonly accepted that the only truly egalitarian cultures have been band or tribe level, and that as social stratification is formalized, women lose power.

I don't believe there have been any matriarchies (defined as the reverse of patriarchy), although there have bee countless more or less egalitarian, or female-centric cultures. In fact, we all most likely descend from such cultures. For us old-worlders (Whiteys, Middle Eastern and Asian folk) that would be before the agricultural revolution 10,000 years ago. Those fuckers in the fertile crescent had to ruin it for everyone.

Suppressed Histories is a fantastic website if anyone wants to do a bit of cross-cultural research about women in powerful roles. The woman who did this work is incredible, and I couldn't possibly paraphrase it - just check it out, it would add a lot to this discussion. Check out her "Matrix Cultures" article. Gold.

I just want to jump in here and voice my opinion that men make more decisions based on reason is crap. I don't see evidence of this in my day to day life. I think men experience and communicate their emotions differently but I think it is rare that you meet anyone who makes their decisions based more on reason than on emotion.

This stems from the fact that most men I know, including myself, are idiots. If they are so reasonable why are they doing dumb shit all the time? Watching sports and chasing tail (two things I love to do) have nothing to do with reason. They are purely emotional pursuits. Getting drunk, playing video games, going to the gym, driving fancy cars...none of these pastimes serve any reasonable purpose.

Let's just put the cards on the table and admit that both men and women are pretty idiotic emotional wonderful creatures when you get right down to it.
