Bonobo - our closest primate relative who lives in a matriarchal society that revolves around sex.
    #9809286 -

Here is the wikipedia article on the Bonobo that everyone should read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonobo

Couple of points to bring up:
- Their similarities to humans and differences from chimpanzees (looks, society - violence & aggression versus sexual arousal and compassion, etc)
- Their matriarchal societal success, although environmental damage has led them to be endangered
- Their sexual promiscuity and openness to homosexuality
- How they get acquainted with other Bonobos through sex acts, and comfort each other after conflicts with sex
- How female Bonobos hold dominance over their societies, subduing male aggression

Really, it's remarkable to compare Chimps to Bonobos since they are so aggressive and territorial versus the complete opposite temperament (patriarchal v matriarchal).  This article doesn't discuss it, but I'd be interested to know the stress levels and life spans of the two species in sustainable environmental conditions..I'd imagine Bonobos to be much more content and satisfied.  Shit, they're always cumming, who wouldn't be happy?!?  The females even scissor and the men play swords with their penises after they piss each other off lol

What I'm trying to get to is in the psychedelic realm of things we frequently discuss patriarchal versus matriarchal societies (partially thanks to McKenna among others), recounting on the history of Mother Goddess cultures, and what our current society has become..competitive, unsupportive, unsustainable, violent, lacking compassion, and a select few dominating the masses.  Where did we go wrong?  We live in a world of segregated sexes, hypocritical sexual taboos, and extreme aggression from males trying to dominate anything and everyone.  Everything seems so insecure and volatile....no wonder so many people are sad and displeased.

It's amazing to see what we could be, happy monkeys greeting each other with open sexuality, comforting each other with touch, living a life of abundance rather than scarcity, with women running our society, letting boys be boys, and all of us just here to feel good and enjoy life, progressing happily into the future, not competing for it.  Doesn't that seem natural?  Does the life dictated by our society feel natural?  I know it doesn't to me.

Our society is so unsustainable we are watching it crumble pov, and it may be up to us, men and women, to guide the re-institution of the matriarchal society to overthrow the powers at large to create a better world for everybody and everything.  It almost happened in the 60s and things were bad, but they weren't imploding like they are now.

I just wanted to share this with ya'll and hear your insights, as well as talk about these crazy Bonobos.

Fantastic post. The problem is these societies would be extremely hard to maintain on a large scale so the population would have to be small to sustain the Utopian ideals. Our society is dictated by business interests but the spark of optimism is that by no means can such a society sustain itself in the long term.

I've always held that patriarchy is one of our greatest collective mistakes. If it ever served any greater use, it no longer does. Hopefully we can ride it out, the balance seems to be very gradually tipping.

The society infrastructure would have to be redistributed to smaller scales, but the population as a whole wouldn't need to be smaller.  Maybe matriarchal micro-societies founded on a compassionate Think Globally Act Locally mentality would do the trick.  The energy extracted from the system would have to go back in in a unifying way, not distributed unequally and then competed for.  We'd have to give up the materialistic and power hungry idol obsession and settle for sustainable sustenance and equality of the whole, a feminine way of life.

I am fully confident we are capable of doing this, provided our current society falls and it has to be replaced with something.

I agree fully.  Some say one of the reasons the balance is tipping is from women awakening their sexuality, which can directly correspond to the Bonobo society of sexual freedom.

Also, since we no longer have to rely on men to operate heavy equipment that governs our sole domestic output, the majority of societal upper-hierarchy jobs can be and are being done by women, such as CEOs, managers, running businesses, governing nations, etc.  Women are rediscovering their power and influence and embracing it, causing them to progress to larger means of understanding, while with men it's more of a static business as usual, dominate this, piss on that to claim it, lol etc.

The key is not just tipping the balance, but the tipping point that overthrows it.  God damn this world needs a woman's touch.

Isn't patriarchy more competitive? Maybe it isn't a great way to organize a society in terms of justice and social ideals, but it does kill other societies pretty good. Maybe that's why it is so successful at spreading itself.

Yeah. As I see it, the spread of patriarchy has met its limit, as the entire globe is in contact with itself, and any further competition is decadent and self-destructive when speaking for the human species in general. Now is the time for meshing and acceptance.

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.

That seems unrealistic to me and also totally counter to what I observe on a day to day basis as well as what I read on the internet and newspapers.

What are you on? I gotta get me some of that!

Is it a personalism to ask somebody what they're "on" when you don't agree with their stated opinion but won't form a coherent argument against it?

Here is a video from TED about researchers working with Bonobos and Bonobos working with researchers.  The video is a little more on the heart warming educational side rather than the scientific side, but it's definetly worth a watch, especially for the end.

I've been a huge fan of these guys for many years. I recognized the superior emotional and physical health from a lifestyle that is fairly unconflicted it seems. They definately have it better then us IMO. The human monkey seems so miserable sometimes.
