Spiritual Strength Training
    #4725071 -

I had a great talk with my best friend last night about the benefits of resistance and opposition in spiritual growth.

The discussion (initially) was about splitting S&P into two forums, and how that would affect the topics/tone/spirit.

Without the skeptics/naysayers, my friend said, posters would be free to explore their spiritual ideas without fear of censure.

But is that realistic? In the "real world" we will be challenged by negativity, subject to examination, and may experience failure in the application of our beliefs. What benefit is it to eliminate the "testing ground"?

I say we have the opportunity to learn from the opposition we encounter in our daily lives, including on this forum. We have a chance to find out whether we are identified with our beliefs, attached to our "way," by the defensiveness evoked in discussions here. What a great perk!

School sucked, for most it wasn't an option.

The benefit of eliminating negative influences in your life is the benefit of eliminating negative influences in your life.

Would you put up with a mooching house guest who was also a negative whiny complaining beatch? I didn't think so...

the forum concept is like kareoke.
each post goes to the music, but we put in our own words.
the public responds from their own depth of resources.
clapping or boo-ing might be involved.

to prevent hecklers, spiritual quacks normally would publish books and sell them by mail order.
between the two are a range of options, but is it fair to impose a change on something that is already vital and accepted by many?

bear in mind both politics and spiritual proselytism are like direct sales. discussion, however, is usually more light hearted.

My house is a much smaller system than my workplace, my town, my state, my country, etc... Certainly I would apply more control over who I invite into my personal space.

But would I eliminate everyone I experience as negative/challenging from all the other spaces I move within? No way!

Can they influence me without my permission/cooperation? No way!

I say we must take responsibility for maintaining our "house" (self).

I don't think your friend said this.

Using my psychic abilities I think your friend said something like, personal attacks are out of place and passive agressive attacks by certain posters are out of place in S&P. Your friend likes skeptics and solid debate about spiritual and philosophical issues. :fairy:

Mmmm Despite my paraphrasing, I think the gist of it was: posters hesitate to put forth "fluffy" ideas for fear of the skeptics.

That was just an observation and not a main point of where your friend was going. (best friend ) And on that point your friend conceeded you had the stronger point. Right?

I say those thieving deer are going to die and be on my grill soon. Is that a negative or a positive?
