...I doubt it. If you want some evidence, check out the archaeological record. Human females do tend to be smaller than males, and have been so since before we were homo sapiens. It would be a pretty wacky course of evolution if people were just mutating back and forth constantly. That doesn't say a damn thing about the power balance between men/women or a culture's concepts regarding gender, though. Physical strength is not necessarily the only basis of influence. It it were, the Terminator would hold public office.... OK, so that's a bad example...

There have been countless egalitarian cultures in the history of the world, and perhaps matriarchal ones as well. Although some would argue that there are no matriarchies, just matrifocal cultures in which women have a great deal of power, but don't lord it over men and dominate them. Maybe women are too evolved to try and do something so stupid as create gender based power disbalances. 

The idea of human history and prehistory being a pitched battle between men/women or person/person, each struggling to dominate all others is pretty silly if you ask me, and has absolutely no basis. It's simply the imposition of industrial capitalist values on the entire history of the world. It's crazy. Cultures where it is encouraged to work together and share are much more successful and adaptive than, say, ours.
