Why would I yell at you for saying we Canadians have more of a Euro influence than an American one?

Your right :smirk:

I had cats when I was a young lad, they were declawed and I loved them. I just got new roommates who moved in with cats, and my new mature adult opinion is that cats suck. They just plain fuck your shit up. They know they do wrong and they cannot stop themselves and even do it on purpose when they are pissed at you. I can tell because every time they know they got busted on the counter or in the basement they run.

They climbed up onto the mantle and knocked off a porcelain "Mushroom Mansion" that my parents got me last Christmas. They got into my grow room and squashed a trough of hydro peas. They also shat and pissed in 20 gallons of soil. Cats are shitheads. We had two cats a male and female sister. Every time we got home it smelled like cat piss, until the male cat left. Lesson learned, unneutered male cats spray constantly and only when you are not around. fuck cats.
/end rant
I will never have another indoor cat, so its irrelevant to say that indoor cats should be declawed. Oh as far as cruelty goes, I dont think declawing is cruel, but chasing cats with airsoft is lots of fun.

My parents recently picked up a cat that will be indoor/outdoor so there was never a question about declawing. You can't do that to a cat that will be outdoors. Anyway, the people at the shelter sent home a packet that explained how the procedure was done. They advised that we tell people we know about the cruelty of the procedure.

Here's something I found while googling: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/declaw.html

I think mutilating animals for our own convienience is terrible. I'd like to bring up the point that declawing your kitty friend is the equivalent of removing the first joint of your own fingers. It will throw off his (or her) balance until she learns how to walk properly again.

It is very a very painful healing process, and if your cat gets outside and has to defend itself, his natural instincts are to use his claws. Poor little guy is fucked.

Ythan is right, too. Cats take enormous pleasure in scratching. Just like we love to have our backs scratched. It is thier nature.

Having any kind of pet isn't an ownership. This is a living creature that depends on you and you're mutilating it. If you are worried about him fucking up your expensive furniture or whatever, then maybe living with a cat isn't the right choice for you.

i would also never declaw a cat, how do you know it doesnt hurt that bad BANEZ? were you a cat that had your claws removed? I have had cats my whole life, and the claws are not that big of a deal, train them to use scratch posts, and they really dont mess anything up, never destroyed anything of mine...

our vet will not declaw cats, as he thinks it is cruel, he also doesnt put animals down out of convenience of the owner, hence the reason we use him

peace

all this crap from peta about it being painful to cats is bullshit. I've had 4 cats throughout my life get declawed, 2 were declawed as soon as they were old enough and 2 were declawed as adult cats. none of them ever had any problems. in fact, they all played and ran around like nothing happened the day after i brought them home from the vet. the biggest problem i saw was them being used to jump on higher surfaces and catching themselves with their claws but falling b'c they didn't have them anymore.

My friend spent $300 for some revolutionary new laser claw removal surgery that supposedly didn't cause the cat any pain. her cat's paws got infected. I had mine done at some backwoods vet for $45 and they never had any problems.

I am not from PETA so don't get that impression.

But cutting the claws off of cats is rediculous. I don't support it and have never done it. It is cruel in my eye. Pets are not property to with as we please regardless of the physical well being. I aquired a cat that was declawed and he definatly acted different because he didn't have clawed. He was a lot more defensive. The thing was is he loves to go oustide but was forced to do so. Everything about it is wrong.

I have never had a bad problem with cats clawing furniture. Sure kittens have done it but now that they are adults I have virtually no issues.

Bah, self righteous crap about a simple and now relatively painless procedure is silly. And owning a cat is ownership. Maybe you should realize people have differing opinions, and my Vets concur with mine. PETA be damned. I don't hear any pleas against removing his manhood. I'm kindof attached to my balls, I'm sure my cat would agree. And since he's happy and solely indoors there is no problem. 30years ago it was a brutal process. Nowadays it's not. Happy owner, happy cat, no problems.

G

Declawing cats is cruel, and if you can't deal with your cat scratching shit, you shouldn't have one. Most adoption agencies won't even adopt cats out to people who won't sign something saying they will never be declawed. It is comparable to having a person's fingers removed at the 1st knuckle. They sell rubber tips that can be put on cats claws so that they cannot damage things, or hurt people when they scratch - a much more humane alternative.

Guess what? At this point I don't care. I'll take a Vets advice over random self-righteous folks any day. I've had declawed cats in the past and they were fine. Go join PETA and live us fairly normal folks alone.

ok, first off, those rubber things get chewed off in about 6 hours.

Which is more inhumane? Giving a cat a warm, loving home without his claws or leaving him homeless or pinned up in an animal shelter where he has a week to impress someone before he's put to death?

What people have GOT to realize is animals are not humans. Cats are neutered everyday but cutting a human male's balls off is mostly used as extreme punishment.

STFU with the declawing is cruel bullshit. If someone has the money to spend on expensive furniture then that person has the money to provide a cat with a nice home.

My declawed cats go outside with me watching them and they love it. They can actually climb trees and catch mice without claws.

The cats don't even know their claws are missing! my cats still try to claw things, like my $1500 couch. I provide my cats with a nice home and they are perfectly happy and healthy without their claws.

That is b-s. There are so fucking many alternatives if you want to keep your furniture whole. Get a scratch-board, cut their claws regularly, use anti-scratch spray and just scare the shit out of the cat when it does something that you don't like.

I don't find the "if we can mutilate them one way why not this way to" argument that convincing btw.

The procedure is exactly like cutting away part of the finger for a human.
