Not cutting away the finger, cutting away the nail and first joint of bone. the tissue remains intact.

Under EU legislation, declawing is illegal.

We were warned from the beginning about possible cat behaviour, such as them biting wires and scratching expensive furniture...but luckily, our cats are pretty well behaved and don't ruin anything. from the time they were kittens, we had cut their claws quite regularly and they do not complain when i trim their claws. they just sit there and take it.

As I said before, I never heard of this until now and I wanted to get more information about it and not because I'm planning to do it. I am a great catlover and I like to know what's going on. Thanks for posting some adorable cat pics, I appreciate that :kitty:

( I kinda knew taking this up would be :pirate:)

Do you think it would've been cruel if your parents had removed your finger and toe nails from you or not? Just curious.

Can I just say.... trimming the nails or gluing soft paws onto the paws of some cats is not possible. I mean unless you have two people, and both are willing to be scratched/bitten.

I don't hurt cats. I'd rather be scratched then declaw a cat any day of the week. And besides, things like furniture are unimportant to me. In any event, if anyone hurt my cat, I'd tear them to pieces, disregarding the consequences to myself.

Whenever my cats uses the scratchpost I can see that they get a lot of pleasure by doing it, cant really  see them get that much pleasure from anything else  :undecided:

(not saying they're not enjoying other stuff)

Same as circumsion right?  I had no choice in that matter.

I grew up with declawed cats in my house.  I never really thought anything about it.  As a matter of fact, the one of our cats became an outdoor cat, and would regularly bring back dead pray.

I imagine the 'back door' European way is to cut off the finger tips, but to my knowledge, the midwest USA procedure is more like removing the fingernails.  It might not be pleasant, but neither is loosing your balls, and i haven't seen anyone here claiming that's wrong

Its fucking horrible, and its what morons that know nothing about these special little animals do. Cats NEED claws. And if someone cant handle a scratch or 2 on the couch, gee I don't know, buy a post.  We have 2 cat houses, and thats all our cats scratch other then mattress we leave in the hallway for them to play on.

In closing, only stupid people De claw. Get even a basic understanding of cats, or don't have one. Simple as that, what a cruel, absolutely horrible thing to do to a cat.

Pffft! I'm sick of PETA freaks and stupid Euro laws. Declawing is no worse than neutering. Get over it. It's not your cat. If the cat is happy then who are you to bitch and moan. A cat is a pet. They're lovable yes, but they are not people, we make decisions for them. It's not cruelty. It's a minor surgery. Maybe some of you should get your snooty, overly intrusive noses some surgery as well. 'Oh Holier than thou, fucketh thee off.' To quote the Bible. ;p

If you think it's so cruel than call the cops on your veteranarian, and see how far that gets you.

As a matter of fact, what you're basically doing is accusing veteranarians of animal cruelty. Many of whom care deeply for animals, and run rescue shelters on their on dime, such as the one my mother works for. They do more good for animals, and 'truly' abused animals than any of your pedantic whining does.

classy. leaving an old mattress in the hallway.

well, excuse me for not wanting my hallway to look like a homeless shelter. but I have nice things and my cats have a good life. they are healthy and happy and declawing them is a non-issue.

Umm, rigt...... My home is all wood floors, I have a fireplace etc, I am not uppity, but my home is a place lots of people would DREAM of living.
And yes declawing your cats was a fucking stupid thing to do.
You should not have pets. End of story. Now leave me the fuck alone. PLEASE.

WOW, sorry I left a mattress in the hallway:lol: oh no, its a homeless shelter now!!! , we ARE going to get rid of it, but we kept it a little longer for the cats.
BTW my cats have 2 houses and 3 beds, totaling well over 200$. So I guess they live in a shit hole
I hope you have an animal shelter close by
