There's a youtube tutorial on how to teach your cat to shit in the toilet. Never heard of a dog learning to do that.

You can train them. Most people just don't. Because generally, in most cases, you don't need to train them. And well... most people aren't aware they can be trained...

Once in a blue moon I dip her feet in to see if she changes her mind. She never does.

Spray it with water when it scratches something you don't want it to scratch and then pick it up and put it on something it CAN scratch. Different cats like to scratch on different things, mine like cardboard.

You can then give them a treat after they successfully scratch on the cardboard or scratching post.

They get it soon enough.

I have also trained her to know that we're feeding her wet food when the theme to the Jetson's is played.

Cats are way more trainable than people think. They can even be trained to use the toilet and be walked on a leash if you start from a young age.

Regarding declawing, I dont think animals know any better, especially if its done when theyre babies. It doesnt ruin their ability to walk or anything. But if I was a cat, I would want my claws, which is why I havent declawed ours. also have a 3 month old and hope that the decision doesnt come back to bite me in the ass once our little one gets more grabby. The cat is definitely aware of how protective we are of the baby, and pretty much stays away from her.

Living in a suburban neighborhood with cats I do think it's cruel. It's not just their defense mechanism, it's also their escape. What do you think they do when a big ass dog is coming to eat them? The smart ones get their ass up in a tree, not try to fight the thing. But you take away both options when you declaw them.


The neighbor used to have a declawed cat. The thing would bite me most of the time when I pet it. I don't know if it happened before or after it got declawed but I do think the thing was mentally retarded. Don't know what exactly happened to him but he got mauled or hit by a car or something cuz the neighbor found him in the driveway covered in blood barely breathing. :undecided:

I mean most of the slightly retarded cats I've met are usually sweet but that thing was mean, it could be that it got itself in a situation most nonspecial cats wouldn't, but it didn't have brains and it didn't have claws so if it was mauled it really didn't stand a chance.

I thought cats don't need to be potty-trained? They just know to go automatically in kitty litter. Something about the smell or something, it instinctively draws cats to go pee there.

It's not a tech's job to train any animals, dog or cat. That's the owner's job. Animal clinics just throw your pets in cages and only take them out to draw blood from them or perform surgery on them.


No kittens need to be trained. I've raised quite a few letters some of my female cats have been hos. Mom cat helps but you just put them in the litter box a bunch and they'll get the idea.

Your gettin the kitten at 8 weeks I believe. If it was properly trained as a little one than ya they know what the box does.

My cats have always been outside cats so not a big deal they don't really need a litter box then. But you still get one to potty train kittens.

Or they'll piss and shit all over your house.
