Judging
    #6319760 -

One trip my mind told me, do not judge, for you can never know someone elses motivations. I have tried not too. I try not to get hung up on judging others
The only time I felt like its right to judge someone, is in a situation where you could be hurt or killed, or something bad happens.
For example, you see this crazy looking guy, running around with a sword. You definately dont know his motivations for running around, being crazy, or having a sword, but you judge that he is (at least potentially)dangerous. This is where judging is needed.
Now sometimes I start to think, maybe If I judged things / people more, I would have been able to avoid some suffering im going through, and be happier, because by judging that something will have a negative effect on me, will allow me to avoid the negative consequences.
Maybe only judgements based on facts are worthwhile, and can help us avoid suffering.
I always try not to judge people, unless I have to.
What do you guys think?

I would differentiate between moral judgment and discernment.

Making moral judgments is (IMO) a huge waste of time and energy. Deciding whether people are good or evil is impossible and pointless. We are not the authority on someone else's character, nor are they authorities on our character.

More to the point is asking yourself whether you want to interact with someone who is behaving in a negative manner. Should you leave? Take cover? Call the police? Get a divorce? This is practical and reasonable.

Maybe not for certain, but I find I have a good intuitive sense of such things. I've been told before that I'm quite good at "reading people." That said, I also have found that it is counterproductive to look down on other people while holding myself above them. I prefer simply to judge my own actions and adjust my behavior accordingly. Whatever motivations people have, I prefer to let them be who they are and find their own way, regardless of whether I would consider such standards fitting for myself.

be your own judge, share with others how you judge, and let them judge for themselves.:thumbup::mushroom2:

well, i think judgement is wrong. Even though i know judging other people is wrong, i simply cant help but judge other people sometimes, even over petty and stupid things, even sometimes when its completely not necessary:shrug:(im sure many can say the same for themselves too). i think its just in my nature and who i am as a person. i do wish, however, for one day that i completely grasp the concept of not judging people anymore, because i know it is wrong, but sometimes i just cant help it. i guess its just how i've been influenced and raised ,and the type of people which i have been around and associated with my whole life. the type of people i hang out with alot tend to judge other people alot, so i guess you could say i am a product of my enviornment, or so to speak.
again i do wish one day to break out of that shell of judgemental ways

a good quote, and true quote at that is
"judgement is reserved for the ignorant"

i remind myself of this quote frequently. one day ,im sure it will be inbeaded in my mind and i will obide by it, hopefully

To everyone his own. Like you say, I see it as a nature, as something that we just do. We all form opinions on matters and about each other, don't we?

I think the deeper question is, how can judgment be reconciled with forgiveness?

Judgment comes in two forms. The hurtful kind says, "What you did is wrong, and you are bad and worthless for having done it." This type of judgment separates and leaves no room for redemption. It is possible though to judge without condemning. We assess the matter, weigh all sides and try to discern the truth. Discernment, as Veritas pointed out earlier. We recognize the need to choose and hope for the courage to do so wisely - but without blame.

hooper- right, when you judge others, you also judge yourself.
I will try now on to discern the truth always, not to judge, but to make observations of the truth and peoples character. I dont wanna get hurt again :frown:
