All have sinned in Adam. Meaning that the original sin is imputed to all humans and they are accounted guilty for it. This is why people can be condemned before the Law was given. The fact that men sin is a reflection of the fallen nature that man has since the Fall.
Since all are born condemned the only hope is that God will be merciful to them. Now God can not forgive sin without the demands of the law being satisfied. This is why the atonement MUST take place in order for a sin to be forgiven.
All sin (that is to be forgiven) is imputed to Christ's account, as if He Himself committed those sins. Since He underwent the wrath of God justice is satisfied. He redeemed His people completely.
Good enough does not cut it, God demands perfection, this is what nobody has. Only Christ was perfect, and only in Him can God look at a sinner.

After all, it's exactly what the story of the fall of Eden implies.
Maybe, elbisivni, but JH05 post is explicit in stating that the acquisition of the knowledge of good and evil is a necessary step in man becoming like God.
Hey fivepointer, How's God doing?

Only Christ was perfect
Nonsense!
Only the gods Apollo, Zeus, and Thor are perfect. They form the infallible Holly Troika, as you well know.
Blaspheming threads like this one are hell-worthy. All of you non-believers don't blame me when you end up in hell on judgment day. I know I've done my part to save you. The rest is up to you!

IMO, polytheistic beliefs are much more sensible than those of monotheists. The existence of multiple 'competing' gods could explain many of the logical-fallacies, loop-holes, hypocrisies, etc presented in association with the idea of one singular god.
I love how monotheists laugh at the ideas of polytheists as if their ideas are so much more logical and realistic. "If people have believed it for this long, then it must be true."
Nevermind that the main focus is placed on the avoidance of punishment BEFORE the thought of achieving some kind of a reward, if you really want to call it that..
Heaven and hell both sound like punishment to me from the descriptions I've heard.
