Judgment
    #7551172 -

People are capable of judging. I think this capability is quite useful.

"Don't be judgmental."

What is this phrase pointing at?

If I should refrain from judgment, what of god? Do we acknowledge god as a judge, or does god judge in the same way god wishes us to judge?

I think people who are told not to be judgmental are usually those who come hastily to emotionally based conclusions instead of seeking a more comprehensive body of perspectives in order to make a more accurate and fair judgment.

I think it refers to those times when one has preconceived ideas which is entirely different from actually reasoning and keeping a flexible mind.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm searching for a frame that will explain non-judgment without using the word "soul". With the word soul, I can easily explain non-judgment and it's clear as day. However, when restricted to only provable things, explaining the virtue of non-judgment, what it is, and isn't, is proving difficult.

I feel like I could put it down on paper, but it would be somewhat convoluted. I'm looking for something simple, direct and to the point, that only uses provable concepts.

Wait.. let me get this straight..you're trying to explain what your judgment on the quality of non-judgment is? What is and isn't virtuous is a judgment no?

I think its about not 'jumping to conclusions that other people are making moral mistakes and pointing it out in a manner that indicates that you think you are better without any real modesty'.

Thats a little hard for the writer to follow - I hope you get that - too tired to re-hash it !!

We all have to make judgments in daily life.

We often use the word judgment when what we are describing is more like condemnation.

To me "don't be judgmental" means don't condemn a person just because they may be under the influence of some ideas that i may not agree with.
However if someone keeps acting out on some fucked up shit then they are inviting lots of judgment and condemnation.

People never use the word "judgmental" in a good way. It always has a negative connotation.

I dont think judgment has specifically to do with anything involving morals or actions, but the judging of a person in general. I do it all the time. I don't mind it either, because the people that i judge as "annoying" or "ego-centric-assholes" usually turn out to be just that, and my life is very much lightened because i choose not to hang out with them. It isn't elite-ism, it's just a choice i think.

People judge things every single day. TV shows, cars, products, and yes, people. So why do we think it's so wrong? People can be the most annoying and stupid things there are.

I think we should get to know people before judging them, but i don't think judging is a bad thing. Just cause the word is always used with a negative connotation doesn't mean it has to be a negative thing.

Maybe, even those who hurt oneself turn our to be more 'nice' at the end, if one doesn't hold the prejudice (and the gun) that they will do it again ? Tell them it hurt, but keep on going on with them, just unprejudiced.
This could be tested.
But I have the feeling, this was done before and turned out negative... (meaning, they feel approved of their deeds, if one doesn't judge and they get what they want). I am just too lazy to do a search.

Ive come to find that there are a lot of people who are built of the same acrchetypes and it effects their outward image. I have always judged everything that im involved with and it has kept me out of trouble and focused. My point is that judging something isnt always a bad thing, and having good judgment is key to survival. Drewwyann is on the right track.

Posted on another forum:

Non-Judgment is acceptance

Pretty short and too the point.

"Judge behaviors and beliefs, and there is no need to judge the person." is perhaps what I was trying to get at.

With the use of the word soul, I could say "Judge a person's ego, not their soul."

With chakras I could say "Judge all you want, just don't close your chakras in the process."

It's impossible not to judge some things. Understanding the basis and motivations on which you make your judgments is the thing that matters. And that's my judgment
