according to the bible, God wants us to party

a friend pointed out this passage for me today, i thought i'd share it with you all.


Deuteronomy
14:23 And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

14:24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; [or] if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:

14:25 Then shalt thou turn [it] into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

14:26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household


my take on it: if you can't make it to church, use your tithe on whatever gets you closer to God. i doont go to church because i think most of them don't care about the people there or God, they only care about attendance numbers and money. all the churches ive ever been to have seemed just like high school with all the cliques and groups.

any thoughts on this?

Well you can still make it to church right? Whether you like it or not. Maybe it means if you were born deep in the Brazilian Amazon and couldn't access a church then God would Divinely Intervene via Ayahuasca or whatever it was? Just thoughts.

i have some pretty bad anxiety, and it makes it hard for me to focus on God when there are 100+ other people in the room whispering and passing notes and completely disinterested. they're nothing but a distraction.

i could go to church easily, there's one on every corner here in the south. but i wouldn't find God there. if God is everywhere all the time, it should be fine for me to worship by myself in my house in my own way. i certainly dont feel guilty about not waking up on sundays and dragging my ass to church. i know i comtemplate God and faith and the nature of things a lot more than the soccer mom shushing her kids between balancing her checkbook two pews over.

its the whole literal interpretation of the bible that messes everything up. i never know when to take things literally or figuratively. but its something to think about.

Seems obvious.

I think to party and rejoice before ones deity is a way of showing self respect and clarity about ones will. Also that one is unified.

That said, my best friend thought God wanted him to smoke crack, and now he's serving 5 for possession.

There are also verses in the Bible that state that people are to enjoy themselves, but not become drunk. Actually, I think there are a few, but I don't know where they are.

Just remember, that whatever you and your friend are reading out of has been amended time and time again, both for the good and the bad.

Well dude,

You may wish to call sacred sacrements drugs, but I don't. That is a cold, scientific way of looking at it. They invoke spirits. Plants have spirits. You can call them "drugs" if you want. That is a pretty cold, lifeless view of it IMO! :mushroom2:

Y'all can call them whatever you want. I just think there is so much more to them than calling 'em drugs.

Was you last trip simply a bunch of drug induced hallucinations or was it a trip to the spirit world?
