--- Religion Test ---
    #6004879 -

You know what an interesting religion is that I stumbled upon recently?

Unitarian Universalism.

It has its flaws but it also has some nice concepts in it.

Quote:
Unitarian Universalism finds its roots in the lineage of two churches — Unitarian and Universalist — each of which formed during the 16th century Protestant Reformation. Unitarians rejected the Roman Catholic belief in the Trinity and instead believed God was a single entity, and more likely a great teacher than a divine force. The Universalists rejected the Roman Catholic belief in Hell and damnation and instead believed that after death all human beings would be in harmony once again with God. These extreme liberal beliefs were sustained in both churches until they merged into the Unitarian Universalist church in 1961 and established their headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. Since then, the members have come to the conclusion that it's more important to agree on how best to live in harmony on Earth than it is to have homogeneous views about God and death. As a result, there is a wide diversity of beliefs about God within the Unitarian Universalist church, ranging from agnostic to polytheist.

Quote:
even though Unitarian Universalists have mixed beliefs about the existence of God, they tend to share the belief that there is something to be learned from every world religion? It appears that you are also open to a wide variety of religious and spiritual ideas. By accepting differences between individual spiritual beliefs, Unitarian Universalists come together under a few broad and inclusive moral ideologies. They pass their beliefs from generation to generation through their church's literature and their teachings, both of which draw on many of the major spiritual texts from a variety of religions. Typically open-minded and intellectual, Unitarian Universalists encourage individual exploration of many different spiritual truths. They also tend to be politically liberal.

Quote:
God
Unitarian Universalists have widely varying beliefs about God — from agnostic to polytheistic. As such, it is an extremely tolerant religion and welcomes diverse individual spiritual orientation and many views on the concept of God.

Origin of the World
Unitarian Universalism believes that the creation stories of all world religions are mythical — some adherents just enjoy them for their symbolism. The organization's official position on the origin of the world supports the big bang theory — that a cosmic explosion marked the beginning of the universe — and further scientific exploration.

Afterlife
Unitarian Universalist beliefs about the afterlife are as varied as their beliefs about God. For the most part, however, Unitarian Universalists do not believe that the soul is reincarnated after death. In fact, the organization's official position on the matter is disbelief in reincarnation, but a Unitarian Universalist church would not disapprove of a member's belief in reincarnation.

What makes it unique?

What sets Unitarian Universalism apart from other religions is their view on religious tolerance. The church is organized around a broad set of moral ideologies, which invites a diverse congregation that welcomes any member. Since members are actively encouraged to seek the spiritual truth that is most true for them as individuals, there is a diverse variety of ideas and this can be confusing or stimulating, depending on your perspective.

Interesting? I am a 90% match with this religion whereas I am 35% match with christianity(that is the lowest).

Wanna do the test yourself?
http://web.tickle.com/tests/religion/?test=religionogt

by the way, it's PhD certified and you probably need to register but it wont take you more than a minute and it's worth the effort.

I am curious to see your religion. Answer sincerely now...
So..what religion did the test indicate for you?
You may choose only one

I didn't vote, I'm baptized catholic, but I'm not 100% with anything, I like some of the ideas of Uniterianism but I don't know if their genuine in their standing in being a religion. It sounds more like a consensus religion that doesn't carry any absolute proclaimations and is based on popular belief.

There were a lot of questions that leaned a bit much on one concept or another, where I was prompted to protest...but couldn't.  I didn't vote either, because my result kind of came up as a non-result.  I dont see it defined or included in the poll either.  I think I stumped it.

Quote:
your belief system is best suited to religions that value open mindedness

You are attracted to a religion that tolerates mixed beliefs about the existence of God and upholds the idea that there is something to be learned from every religion. You are open to a wide variety of religious and spiritual ideas. You are attracted to spiritual groups that are composed of typically open-minded and intellectual people who actively engage in individual exploration of many different spiritual truths.

edit: upon going back to my account and looking at my results, I guess I scored Unitarian Universalism...

I don't think it carries any absolutes at all and that is one of the reasons I like it. It's a welcoming religion. It does not provide a false answer to the worlds important questions, rather it debates them using its members. Something like what we are doing here.

Doesn't really suit me generally but I am sure some people will love its open-mindedness and it's allways nice to see something different and not as absolute and pretending to be all knowing(where all=important questions about life) like so many other religions.

Of course I don't know, because I haven't spoken with any member but at least that is my view of it as an outsider.

I dunno how I feel about this. From what you listed, I agree with alot of their beliefs...does that make me a good candidate for this religion? Probably not. It is still organized religion, I could form 100 religions based on what I believe, that could live in peace with eachothers even though they has slightly diffrent beliefs.

I can see benefits, like people of simular mindsets meeting, and experiencing together...but why does it need to have a name. Why can people not get together and celebrate life without the need to put a label on it.

Re: --- Religion Test --- [Re: vampirism]

You know, I don't know why but I really like the fact that in most of us Christian Orthodox or Catholic is way low in the list. Considering our by nature open minded forum this makes me feel good. Most christians out there are extremely narrow minded sheep and I don't blame them for that. They are anyway a great majority in the worlds population and are convinced they got the answer. I like the fact that some people remain crystal clear about what may be happening. But then again, it may be just me... :dancing:
