I think its different for different beings. 

also, not everyone comes back to Earth.  There are many other places to go.  Most of them are much more fun than here :wink:

I've been reincarnating on earth off and on for quite some time now, trying to win a battle.  I think its in the final stages right now, so hopefully I'll be able to move on soon.

I know that I would be able to handle being alone like that for an extended period. I also was alone most of my childhood, and I think that does have a lot to do with it. Learning to be able to be by yourself is a skill just like being able to relate to other people is a skill. You learn both only by practice, and really you have to have some balance between being with others and being with yourself, I think.

nah, I wouldn't want that much credit.  Its not like I'm not going to get repaid by my friends for bailin them out :wink:  I'll do a friend a favor, but my favors ain't free :lol:  So I wouldn't want to make myself seem all magnanimous, because my magnanimousness does have its limits :smile:

Mother Teresa is one of my personal heroes, though.  Fucking badass lady, she was.  Truly one of God's mighty warriors.

Which reminds me..

The relationship between me and god is like this:

I am a mouse in a labyrinth and I'm supose to find the exit,
but I'm such a weak little mouse who has problems with persisting in this task.
So I go a couple of cm's then I sort of say: nah, screw this, I can't find a way out, then I find a hole and hide inside.
The god flushes me out of the hole with some kind of a shock, first I'm scared, then I'm pissed, then scared again, and then I give up and say, ok I'll go on, I can't stand this any longer.
Then I go a couple of more CM's and find another hole, then comes another flushing out, and so on.
God never stops flushing me out of confortable holes for the sake of finding the exit out of the maze.
My faith that I'll find the exit lasts only a couple of seconds after I decide to go on, then I just walk and look for another hole...
On the exit is cheese, and the shock that god keeps flushing me out with is hunger for cheese. But I'm such a fucked up mouse that if it weren't for the flushings I'd let the stomach acid burn a hole in my belly before I went to look for the chese.
Such a difficult mouse I am.

I have a close friend who can't be alone. She has made many mistakes and it has almost cost her more than she ever imagined because of it.

I've never really been completely alone, but I don't have many people, if anyone, around me most times. There are times I wish I wasn't alone, and there are times when I don't think I could live with someone else. Very rarely, though, would I consider myself lonely. This may be cliche, but you have to find the happy medium.

I a bit confused by what you are trying to say. I asked how would you feel living alone (and in your own home)?

Well I live with a siamese cat who is excellent company. He doesn't say much which is fine with me. And I am in my own home.

How would living alone without my cat make me feel? Sad.

People are great but their company can get tedious at best so I don't mind being with my cat in my own home and watching the beautiful sunset.

My point with the nursing home is that sooner or later (unless you get lucky enough to die in your own home) most people get old and end up dropped off at some nursing home by their kids who visit once a month. Maybe.

Actually, most elderly people do not end up in nursing homes. Approximately 1/3 - 1/2 of elderly who become disabled & unable to care for themselves will enter a nursing home. That means that 1/2 - 2/3 either live alone & care for themselves, or are cared for by relatives.

Personally, if I got to the point where I could not feed myself or control my bowels, I'd check out. This would stand whether my boys were willing to take care of me or not. I would much rather be independent throughout my lifetime, and say "sayonara" when my autonomy ended.

Same here... preperation of a wooden Viking ship would be at hand, and I would be sent off in it, on a fjord, with it in flames...

If I was ever going to consciously die... I think it would be the same scenario, but involving a lot of acid, or something. If I'm going to die in minutes, the flames won't matter... :grin:
