lots to think about and reread here
Quote:
However, this preservation of things in their nature does not have a simple meaning, nor is it an easy task. For what is the nature of things (By nature, or essence, Heidegger usually means the "function" or "role")? Once again, the function of things is to gather the fourfold: earth and sky, divinity and mortals. Finally, in order to understand what this means and how it works, we return to our subject: drugs

Function or role are associated attributes, I think the nature or essence of any thing is its minimum engram. The minimum identity part or pattern that cues the associations. (in a way connection to meanings becomes the essence and the core connector essence becomes knowable, or its abstract does.)

For seeking essence, psychedelic has been valuable (to me). Some other "drugs" have been useful in bending the fabric of life to show how resiliantly it responds to stress.

//later
the elusive essence of any thing then is what connects it to other things, i.e. not the isolated thing itself but the dynamic of its connecting.

so the effort to seek connections is a dynamic flux and may be core to the bigger thing we call life. this also is something that psychedelling tosses me into.

But then there's an phenomenon that emerges from the technicity of drugs: the insight into the essence of things and the appreciation of thingness with the common insight of understanding of how to Care for things.

True

But all those "extracts, all the drugs bought like Big Macs" are not used with appreciation of thingness by the consumer.

Never heard of Heidegger. I do like this this perspective on how drug use has progressed to its current state. I think very few who deal with drug reform policies or the drug rehab centers have this type of insight into the issue as I am experiencing first hand. I'm not sure it would be beneficial though. The problem today is where it is because people don't like taking the time to prepare their drugs or food or children. So I don't see why anything will change.

I have a kilogram of salvia, and I think I know what I'm going to do with it now. I'm not against the idea of human intervention in drugs or conscious evolution. I do find that there is something to be said about the nature of things as they exist on their own though. Like everyone else out there, I cannot honestly say I know how any of this came about, but it works almost too perfectly the way it is. The more I study the world, the more I see how balanced it is and how much it desires my participation instead of manipulation.
