Trippin' on Amanitas!

Alright. A friend and I have been collecting Amanita Muscaria for the past few weeks (they just came out, and damn they are beauitful!). Finally, last weekend, we ate some: About two small fresh, sauteed caps each, and then four or five dried caps each. I know that sounds like a lot, but the drying process, for us, really seemed to decrease potencey.
So anyway, we had a babysitter, the setting was good, the time was perfect. We both tripped VERY hard, harder than I ever thought it possible to trip. Amanitas really opened my eyes to a lot of wisdom, a lot of powerful stuff. I heard voices from the Earth, saw visions of beings that don't live in "ordinary" reality, had the most extraordinary hallucinations.
My eyes are opened. What next? Is there anyone out there who can tell me where to find more information on Amanitas? The information on the internet and the local library is either dispicably biased or completely vauge. Or perhaps this is the way it should be? I truley believe that this is the Soma of legends, but I don't know where to go next. I must learn more! Help me, if you please!

Sorry to burst YOUR bubble phrozendata, but the shrooms you're thinking of are the ones that are often confused with amanita muscaria. You probably read a story about people looking for muscarias, and picked the wrong ones, and died. Muscarias are very edible, the only downside, is they are very unreliable in terms of good/bad trips. Heaven and hell combined into one mushroom. *pop*

Oh, and methus, you said you checked the internet for info, well if you haven't yet checked the Amanitas section on the left, you should.

Try rolling up an cap and stuffing it in a bowl and smokeing it, the affects from this are supposed to be way different from just eating them.

Naw, amanitas are a pretty safe way of exploring your consciousness... You just have to cook em or dry em to produce Muscimol (the substance that you trip off of). And Stoner420!!! Dude! Before you run off and eat some amanitas, be very very careful about it. They WILL fuck you up if they don't like you. This isnt superstition: If you do eat amanitas, please have respect for it. A lot of bad trips happen because of a lack of respect. (sorry if I offend you... Just don't wanna see a brother have a shitty trip!)
And yeah, I checked out the Amanita section to the left, and it's all really good information, but it's pretty much the ONLY information. I can't find anything that goes beyond what's there. Hmmmm....

oh i know methus... i always do my stuff in moderation and with respect. i wasnt planning on goin out in the woods and picking it and eating it right there. i always do my research and i also make sure what im taking doesnt kill me. drugs are great, but can hurt you if not done right, which is bad. i was just stating that im gonna see if i can try some because im having an extremly hard time finding some shrooms in my town and im not sure why. and hard time finding acid too. hmm not sure why either. thanks for tryin to look out for me though! peace

How many people are going to confuse Amanita Muscaria with another shroom? It's a very distinctive, unique looking mushroom.
Several other amanita species are deadly, but none of them even remotely resemble muscaria.
So unless you're seriously vision impaired I don't see how anyone could mistake another, more unfriendly shroom for amanita muscaria.

McKenna said that he was never able to trip from Amanitas--he said this in Food for the Gods. I think he only tried them a few times though. Is the trip as psychedelic as cubensis or is it more "dissassociative" ?

Actually the Napkin Amanita (Amanita citrnia) looks alot like the yellow variety of Amanita muscaria, but i dont know how toxic it is.

McKenna probably didnt eat as much as he should have. It took me a few tries to actually trip... The first time we ate 'em, we had to go through about a dozen large dried caps each before feeling even the slightest effects. And dried amanitas taste fuckin' wretched!
As for the trip, it's a combination of introversion and extroversion. You get a lot of intense emotional feelings, but at the same time, you are giddy like a baby. So it's interesting. When we tripped, we really tripped hard, though. My friend was babbling in tounges for a while, then all he could mutter was "Oh.... SHIT! Oh SHIT!" for the next half hour. You be the judge of that.
I just mostly got a lot of incredibly varied hallucinations. At one point I thought I was all alone in a giant grey room with a one-eyed blob beast staring down at me from above. Don't have a clue what it means......
This mushroom is a powerful, powerful force. It really has changed my life around. It won't take you where anything else does. All I can say is, if you are ready for it, be prepared for a whole other experience.

Milkman, I was only thinking of the red Muscarias since I've never seen the yellow variety before. Amanita Citrina does look a little like a yellow Muscaria, but it is a safe, edible species anyway.

I remember when I used to live in moscow when I was very young,like 6 and I lived on this giant house on a farm and I could ALWAYS find amanitas.....Of course at the time I didn't know what the heck they were but I ALWAYS remember my mom telling me to stay away from them.....But at every turn I saw a huge red mushrooms with white spots all over it and I even remember picking one but my dad took it from me and chugged it...God I wanna go back to that place now

Me and some friends recently went out into the woods near my house and picked nearly 50 mushrooms (A. Muscaria)

I am really eager to try them for the first time, but I am reluctant to do so due to the fact that every second story I hear about this mushroom sounds like a tale out of hell.

I don't want to go through that, so I am currently doing research on the topic of Amanitas.

I don't know much about em except that they're not classified as a hallucinigen like other shrooms are...it's classified as something else I forget what tho....I can't say from personal expirience but from the reports I've read at the lycaeum amanitas are a totally different ball game than p.cubensis..Just 1 would be enough to send a first timer to the moon....But if you're feeling uncomfortable about it then you shouldn't do it...I felt the same way about p.cubensis but after a few months of research at the shroomery I was ready and I was glad I DID research it because I knew what was gonna happen, and what was normal and what wasn't......Anywho I'm just rambling on, peace

The reason why every other Amanita story you hear sounds messed up is usually because the TRIPPER is messed up, not the mushroom. That's why half the trip reports out there make it sound like it's not a good thing; Too many folks out there messing with powerful forces and with the wrong intentions. The mushroom sits and waits there with it's knowledge, and you can tap that knowledge whenever you want. What makes the difference between a "good" and "bad" trip is totally and completely in the tripper.
So don't worry about it. Meditate on it, think about it, get to know your mushrooms. (And when you decide to trip, give it some structure. I didnt do that last time and I sort of lost control for a while there...)
Be strong, be cool, be thankful. That's how you handle the amanitas.

Well, what you said wasnt true.
Amanita Muscaria can be one of any number of different colors, depending on where they're growing etc.

There ARE other deadly amanitas that look closely to the Muscaira's.

Anyways, the thing i dont like about amanitas is that when you boil them in water then drink the water you get extreme nausea (more than with psilocybe mushrooms) and you have to smoke weed every 30 minutes or so to calm it down..

does anyone has a better technique of preperation to suggest?

It doesn't matter if some amanita muscaria look sort of like an amanita whateverthefuck, because an amanita muscaria doesn't look like anything else- and those are the ones you should pick. Right?

i have reasearched alot about amanita muscaria and i know i am ready to try them. but the past two weekends i have gone into the woulds around my house and i haven't found any. does anyone know a place where they grow alot in ky?
