The Contagious Nature of Smiling

Why is it when someone smiles at you, and not a formal smile to hide the true intent of their words, but a truthful, open smile, you're forced to do it, too?
Some might say that it is because we associate a smile with happiness, thusforth (bait bait bait) we make a subconscious connection in our brain that releases endorphins, expecting pleasure. But if this were true, why do little kids laugh all the time? They're too young to be subliminally distorted, so obviously there's alteriour reasons we become happy for no good reason. But if it's not a physical neurological condition, maybe it's just something in the air?

Yawns are also often 'contagious'.
When someone smiles at you, they're showing you a form of affection, and who won't respond well to love?
When you see an anonymous stranger smiling as they walk by you on the street, you may become curious, but there's a far smaller chance that you'll smile too, since there was no affection directed at you. Though if you're in a good mood you too may smile.

smiling does more than most people think. In the halls at school a smile can turn someone's day around. Once you start smiling and just enjoying life you will find it to be "addicting" and very contagious for others. It's a great thing

Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love." "Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings."
