have just talked to RC - Servers are OK, RC is not...

I have just talked on the phone with RC. I know RC, so lets not have any 'was it really him' type responses.

RC shut down the services on the servers - at this point in time the servers have NOT been seized. It appears that OG and CW info is safe and intact - woo hoo!

RC was arrested, and charged concerning the import/export of cannabis seeds - no other charges at this time.

RC has been home for a bit, but is prohibited from using the internet.

RC approved me posting this.

Finally, RC will be issuing a statement through a third party as soon as he has the chance, letting the community know what the situation is.

Could everyone now stop all the hand-wringing, and pull together.


Our thoughts are with you RC - we all wish you the best of luck, and want you to know the community will be here for you.

were turned off by RC so theres no IP log's
recent report's on Cannabis Culture that RC had fled are totally wrong

Many people are saying the above report is bogus. Obviously, I dont know any more than anyone else...

But they say there is no arrest record, no bail hearing, nothing. People in contact with the news media up there say they havent heard a whiff of any arrest or anything like that.

I totally forgot. This is totally unrelated to RC's bust.
This was made perfectly clear at the original time of Overgrow going down. It was very specifically stated that the Hearst bust is unrelated.

As Geo has said here, there is no need to panic.

We have for years been actively planning for problems such as this, mind you I still think that RC is being charged for other things, that his website is not comprimised.

IF the website itself was doing something illegal according to laws on the books now, it would be news to the legal community. There are organizations dedicated to protecting such websites, full of brilliant lawyers who are keeping watch so to speak on the legal front of the war on drugs.

Not to say you shouldn't take precautions, my god you should be taking precautions without these kinds of stories to inspire you. Never get into a hobby like this without FULLY realizing the risk you take. Take precautions, but realize that sometimes even the most careful will be arrested.

Weigh out the risk vs the reward.

I can only just repeat what Geo said already that we are doing our due diligance with protecting this website, legal counsel is avaible to us and we use it.

I wish all the best for Richard, he's a nice guy and now I know why I haven't gotten any email replies in the last week :wink:

Having said that I think it would be wise to make it clear in the grow forums and other boards that it's perfectly possible for the cops to take the servers, track you down through your ip log, pay you a visit and use your posts at the shroomery if any charges are brought against you.

Doesn't that go without saying? Self-responsibility isn't something that ought to be flipped on and off depending upon whether or not one is in the virtual world. If you are involved with a criminal activity, you always need to take precaution to maximize your safety -- online or otherwise. We don't want to plaster such paranoia all over the boards, but we do try to make it clear within our various public documents and stickies, including our new user agreement:

I will love everything on god's green earth end of story, Im aware of stores that sell equipment/clones/seeds to the general public but nothing happens to them but the RCMP will go pick on websites?

They are trying to silence the freedom of information, shame on them.
