trap shooting

i just went trap shooting for my first time tonight. i had never fired a shotgun before, but now i've fired a few different kinds, 12 and 20 guage. i went with three friends and their dad. it was great, the 5 of us had our own trap and we just rotated through with 5 shots at each of the five stations. we did that twice for a total of 50 shells. it took me a little while to get a handle on how to track each disc as it came out of the thing, but after 10 rounds or so, i was able to do it pretty well. i ended up 27 for 50 on the night.

we also each got 25 rounds on the skeet (spelling), which was MUCH harder. i only hit one clay disc the whole time. having the discs coming at you and across you makes it hard as hell.

it was a great environment because all 5 of us were first time shooters, but the regulars at the range were more than happy to help us out by showing us the basics and then helping us throughout our rounds to help us with technique. it was definitely cool to see how responsible everyone was the whole entire time. i felt totally safe the whole time. i would highly recommend going to a range to anyone who wanted to try shooting. i just can't wait until we go back with some handguns and rifles and get on the target range.
