Hey yall, Intelligence Quotient?

Is it possible to actually raise your IQ points or are you stuck with the numbers you been given? If so does anyone know of a good way to raise them. I want tried and approved methods, none of this stare at an orange all night and think real hard bullshit.

There are no tricks you can use, but you may be able to raise your IQ score a couple of points with vigorous mental exorcise. I also expect it would take some time, and would only raise it by a few points.

I wasn't asking for tricks, I was asking for exercises. rigorous mental work is fine by me. I have a book that is supposed to help the thought process, teach you to think laterally and things like that. I spend quite a bit of time with it. I try and complete one level a night. Its beginning to take some major time between levels. It pleases me to see that the percentage I get correct in each level is staying the same. It seems to me that that can only mean one thing that i am learning with each level.

Something I have always found that helps, aside from regimented exercises, is to find something which you can't seem to understand...then work at it until you do understand it.

That way you not only get some mental exercise, but the benefit of some added knowledge when you are finished :wink:

If you ask me, your IQ doesn?t say very much about how smart you are, they?re more a limited representation of certain aquired (not born with) skills. If you really want to score higher on these tests, just do a lot of different IQ tests, the net must be full of them. You?ll see that in a while you start seeing certain patterns, figure out how they want you to look at things, and take the appropriate steps to solve the problem. No smartness involved in this, just something you can learn, some learn it quicker than others but they can still learn how to do it and score well. Take some time to think about this, the IQ test is a western invention, and, what a coincidence us westerners score best on them. Does that make us the smartest people in the world? I don?t think so, it has much to do with our cultural background and how we are TAUGHT to think and act, this reflects in the tests. At best an IQ test tells you how well you answer to the standards of western society, the grey mass so to say.

Just my 0,02 on this.

honestly you can get better at the test and get a higher score, but that dosent mean that youre going to get smarter.

what is youre goal here? if its to get a beeter score on the test, study the test, if your goal is to become smarter and more knowledgable then go to school, watch educational programs, excersise mentally.

Well I seek to improve the way at which I interpret data and draw conclusions from it. I seek to better able myself to draw from the bank of knowledge in my head and to process data more effiiciently and accurately. I am not unpleased with the results from the only professional I.Q test I have received. In fact I am quite pleased with it. I simply feel that I would rather be better at the things aforementioned.

I also share a similar mind, the are not a true representation of cerebral prowess. However, if I can be better, then I would be.
The fail to measure vision, recollection, association and other things that weigh in heavily when decisions are necessary. I excel in association, my memory skills need some work and my vision is unsurpassed. I

I was simply asking if there were measures one could take to actively improve the rate at which they assimilate knowledge.

sure, but if you were really that smart, you would realize IQ tests are a joke anyways. I promise you, vedic math would make the biggest difference. More than speedreading.

I don't believe IQ tests are a joke. They are specifically desigened to test your inate ability to reason. I am not alking about the culturally biased scholastic aptitude tests. I am talkng about IQ tests. The difference is extreme. Scholastic tests measure the amount of learning you have indulged in over a given time. IQ test do not.

I wish I didn't know my IQ. It is high so I think I can do stupid things and justify them. IQ's are more about problem solving type brain actions. I'd gladly give up a few dozen of these points for more mental stability and ability to deal with emotions. Personality and mental well being is what makes a person.

well with most people who have highly developed IQ's mental stability starts to fade. It comes with being so perceptive and finding very few people who can keep pace with you.

Care to explain why?

I have never met someone who scored high on an IQ test, yet was "stupid". Nor have I ever met someone who scored low on an IQ test, but who was intelligent.

People often like to cast aside IQ, yet I never see any valid arguments why.
