another lesson from new orleans...
    #4615990 - 09/03/05 12:33 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

i shall begin by reposting my response to the other katrina thread...

"I am absolutely disgusted. After the tsunami our people, even the ones who lost everything, wanted to help the others who were suffering," said Sajeewa Chinthaka, 36, as he watched a cricket match in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

"Not a single tourist caught in the tsunami was mugged. Now with all this happening in the U.S. we can easily see where the civilized part of the world's population is"

IMAO..new orleans clearly shows how americans think very differently from asians..and prolly also europeans and all other human beings too...and it might also explain other aspects of america (ie the popularity of neoconservatism..etc) that dont seem to make much sense at first..

i might have made a slight error in my commentary with the use of the word popularity of neoconservatism...neoconservatism is as much of a disaster as katrina..and we see a similar response ..a refusal to organize against the common threat..with many even exploiting the threat to their advantage...this suggests that america has (d)evolved its own unique brand of human biology in the 400 years since the first settlers arrived (yes..that is enough time).. a biology that now makes political organization against dangerous radicalism just as impossible as community organizing to deal with the results of the hurricane...

what this means is that the radical right may not be so "popular" so much as american genetics precludes any organized response against it...

American genetics isn't what is keeping the conservatives in power, it's the inability of liberals to run a legitimate candidate for president.

Not sure what your point is.

You do realize that these people rioting and looting and killing and behaving like animals are liberals don't you?

They're not little Eichmans, O'reileys, Buchanons, Coulters, or Limbaughs.

They're the people that rich liberals use to steal more power for themselves. It's too bad we didn't spend all those welfare checks on levee improvements and maintenance.

becuase the neocons spent them on iraq and haliburton instead...

anyway..the point is that NO suggests that political organization against the far right might not be possible for the same reason that cats cant be hearded in a lightening storm...

It's simply social Darwinism, not biological natural selection. Humans don't evolve in a few hundred years.

Evidently the philosophy of neoconversatism is winning out against liberalism. Politics is simply a vast arena of social Darwinism like this, with old victors often losing ground and new philosophies gaining power.

nothing could be further from the truth...to begin with..we are larger and longer-lived than our puritan ancestors 400 years ago..and our jawbones are slightly shorter...and whatever evolutionary split turned americans into "cat" people (vs the "dog" people found in other countries) might well have been what prompted the puritans to start their own religion and leave the UK...

Are you saying the left is too scatterbrained to put up a decent fight because the neonazis are all organazized and effective, and the hippies are all busy "freethinking" all the time?

If so, I agree.

I myself is a certified scatterbrain. It's in my permanent record from elementary school.

I reccomend loads and loads of "freethinking" about science and technology. It is their best bet to have any effectiveness in the world. Build the underground economy. Bring ivory tower power down to the street.

I believe you could probably manipulate the human gene pool over a period of that time.

Some mental traits are genetic. People who are predisposed to a certain ideology come together into groups and practice exclusive breeding habits for several generations.

People who are born into the culture who do not have the cognative predisposition for the idology are ostracised or just leave on their own leaving the the population with increasingly exaggerated traits.

More food and nutrition and better medicine/ health care could be to blame.

Where did you read this? Not to mention, America is a country of many different races, each of which evolved to have their own unique traits. We're much more "blended" in the modern day than we were three or four hundred years ago.

This seems to be social Darwinism, not genetics. Of course, you could argue that genetics play a role in everything, but natural selection didn't evolve "cat people" over the past few hundred years.

Natural selection is an amazing process, but it doesn't work for a massive race like humans in 300 or 400 years. Our lives alone are long enough so that mutations that would enhance our survival can take an extremely long time to actually pass around the human species, unless there's a major catastrophe and the subsequent population bottleneck.
