can psilocybin be absorbed in alcohol

what i mean is this. I have been told if you put bud in 151 and let it sit over night the alcohol absorbs all/most of the THC will mushrooms do the same thing. And if alcohol can't absorb psilocybin is this somthing that is liquid that is eddiable that could?

Alcohol can "absorb" psilocybin, has to be concentrated alcohol for best results, I believe methanol is the best in terms of effectiveness.

I am curious do you intend to make a trippy drink, do an extraction or just curious?

Methanol?? Methyl alcohol is LETHAL! If you'd want to use it you'd have to make sure that after extracting, all of it is evaporized
You'd better use ethanol, it's the same alcohol as in beverages.

well my whole plane was to make a trippy drink say a little thc a little psilocybin. I was going to add a touch of this alcohol that has a very cool blue color to ir(just their for effect).........i went ahead and did the search you sugested and got lots of good reading.

heh I'd had an idea to do that before.. well, actually, what I wanted (well, still want) to do is get a bunch of shrooms, put them in honey, and ferment said honey into mead..
I'm sure whatever would result would taste FOUL, but damn wouldnt it rock.

yea i will be sure to post results, but for right now i am kinda getting ahead of myself considering i am trying to grow my first batchright now....hell i can't even get any from local vendors here because they are that hard to find right now.but like i said i will be sure to let all know how it goes

A few sugestions.

    1. Methanol is poisonous, but is so volitile that it is easy to evaporate cleanly. Just leave it sit out or hit it with a hairdrier.

    2. Methanol is the most effective solvent alcohol for extracting psilocybin, but Ethanol will work too. When using Ethanol, it is actually more effective to use it slightly diluted. 151 should work perfectly for you. However -- keep reading:

    3. Grind the fruitbodies up before extracting. It works faster and much more effective.

    4. Extract the Marijuana and Mushrooms seperatly. The alcohol will become saturated with the chemicals and won't extract either properly if you try to do them at the same time. You can combine the extracts to make your drink.

This is where you will come in to some problems. To extract 3.5 grams of mushrooms, you will need a few ounces. Do you really want to have to drink a few ounces of 151 to get your dose? You will end up drunk before you ever get to tripping.

The best bet would be to evaporate some of the extract down to a reasonable level, mix the extracts, and redilute with water or another inert liquid. Rediluting ensures that none of the goodies precipitated out of the concoction. Using Methanol for the extration will make evaporating the extract easier.

Very very helpful guys.....i understand the point you make nut butta and i thank you for presenting it the way you did(showing the pro's and con's of both solutions). I will let you guys know how my "research" turns out ....given i actually am able to get some mushrooms from my frist grow, oh and by grow i mean it in a totaly fictious sense of course.

are you saying that the mushies should be dried then ground in a coffee grinder then put in menanol. If allowed evaporate off your still gonna have powder in your brew? Or are you saying cut up some flesh mushies and soak for <how long should they sit in the alcohol> then strain them out and let the menanol completely evaporate. Leaving you with a some form of chemical compound. Then add some water or something to you beaker and shake it up?

Psilocybin is fairly soluble in d-H2O.

If for some reason you use methanol, just remember that the human liver metabolizes it into formaldehyde... one of the lasts things you want in your body. Be safe.

I had once thought about doing this after reading an article in Cannabis Culture magazine, but I was kind of worried about potency loss. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences in regards to losing potency with this method? :smile:
