Is there a way to extract psilocybin from psilocybe mushrooms...?

Has anyone here ever done it?

Read the tripping section on the shroomery main page, theres some shit on this there. You have to get pure 200% alcohol though. Iv heard something about extracting water from vodka to make it 200%, any truth to this?

I'm no expert when it comes to alcohol but I think you mean 200 proof which is 100%... You can't have something that is 200% alcohol.

Sort of but it the other way round you extract the alchol from the water because water has a higer fraction than the alchol e.g

water is 100 c
alchol 75 c

I have been thinking of trying to get some 200 proof alchol but the only way is to try this :

Build a distill
There is better sites out there but its too early in the morning for me to find them so just use your search engine should be easy enough.

There are various ways of doing an alkaloid extraction on 'shrooms. MeOH is quite effective, but I'm not sure I'd use MeOH unless you have a little chemistry experience as MeOH is TOXIC. (Get enough in your system and you'll go blind).

You can do an EtOH extraction with grain alcohol such as Everclear (95% EtOH, 190 proof). There's debates about whether the extra water content is good, bad or indifferent.

Both yield fairly crude extractions and will grab the majority of alkaloids (psilocin and psilicybin aren't the only alkaloids in most psychoactive 'shrooms....)

Psilocybine no but you can extract psilocine form psilocybian mushrooms using methanol for extraction. ADN remember that psilocybine is water soulable and is converted to psilocine through amination when taken orally. Your body thus converts all of thepsilocybine into psilocine.

However the dosage would then be 15 milligerams a dose and I doubt if most have electronic scales to weight thatsmall amount of a chemical.

Make the shroom to a powder, put for a day on the highest proof possibe grain alcohool and you are done.

What do I look for after it's extracted? Will it be in the alcohol, or will it be some kind of powder or salt-like material?

Also, what constitutes grain alcohol? Just ethanol?

Dry the mushrooms.
- This important step is most likely to cause the greatest
loss of yield depending on how it is done.
Crush or grind the dried carpophores or mycelium to a powder.

Shake and allow to stand (e.g. 30 mins) in chloroform. Use maybe
twice the dry weight in solvents at every step, or enough to
well cover the powder.

Filter and discard the chloroform.

SHake the reidue and allow to stand with acetone.

Filter and discard the acetone.

Shake residue and allow to stand with methanol.
Filter.
Shake residue and allow to stand with methanol.
Filter.
Shake residue and allow to stand with methanol.
Filter.

Discard residue.
Combine methanol extracts.

Evaporate methanol to dryness, preferably in a vacuum, although
low heat will do.
This will yield a crude extract containing the active tryptamines,
suitable for most purposes.
This can be further chromatographed on cellulose etc. to give pure
psilocin and psilocybin. The recommended solvents are
n-Butanol saturated with water, and n-butanol:acetic acid:water
(24:10:10).

You can dehydrate alchohol with magnesium sulphate (dry of epsom salt in an oven until it looks like chalk) than filter and distill the alcohol (distill because a little MgSO4 will get through the filter).
