Personally, I would not think that "manipulation" and "force" are words that describe a mind that is effectively managing itself and its direct perception of reality. I certainly agree that there are mechanisms by which the mind will challenge certain thoughts and introduce new ones to replace them, possibly creating an exchange, almost an "arguement"; however, I don't think it is simply possible that some identity within oneself can exercise dominion over its thoughts and feelings at the wave of its hand. Creating such an internal struggle will seperate one's experience, create a hierachy of self-identity that makes a center in one's state of being impossible, and that will serve as cancer within oneself which will also materialize in one's external circumstances (ever encounter a politician?).

One doesn't force oneself to let go of negative thought patterns, one doesn't force oneself to not experience a haunting, unsatisfying emotion. An aspect of the mind might try to distract itself and not face the problem, but it is only through fully exploring the problem that one comes to understand the problem, which then opens the door to realization of the mechanics of the problem and why it came into being, which then leads to the possibillity of assimilating this into one's perspective, one's aspects of mind that is responsible for our experience of reality and our decision-making process. No matter how many times I've become aware of various flaws in my mental programming that have seperated myself from a more pure state of awareness and being, it is only from coming to the full realizations that result that I have been able to transcend the problem and reach the intended destination. Or something.

Peace. :mushroom2:

If you want to manipulate peoples emotions, project one of Jerry Bruckheimers films. That is a classic case of pure manipulation:
first stick a sugar cube down their throats in form of subtle sex and action/violence so they have your attention, then use  slow motion and music to direct emotions , he has people like puppets, and they just go inviting their friends to see those films so they can stick more money down his pants.

I don't see it as unreachable and distant, I see it as impossible and nonexistent.

For something to be unconditional, it has to have no conditions placed on it. For humans, this seems impossible. If somebody tortured you for long enough, your love for them could be affected. If somebody did something drasticly sadistic to you and your family and your dog, then chances are your love would be affected. Unconditional love would have no conditions, and therefore would not be affected by anything done by the person. This seems completely unhuman to me, as it takes away any chance to reform your views in light of the changes evident in that person.

I doubt it.

Humans are not gods; not everything is possible, only that which we've evolved to be able to do.

after the torture is over, you can offer your help to the man, to help him get rid of the violence, that is love.

Ravus said:
Unconditional love seems an impossibility. Love itself is an emotion created in the brain, and there is nothing wrong with speaking of that. But unconditional?

The definition of unconditional says that it has no conditions or limitations, or in other words is absolute. Yet humans are not absolute; we are anything but absolute. All of our emotions are constrained by the limitations of our mind. The way we were developed itself only gives us the area needed for our survival; beyond that nothing is developed.

So unconditional love seems impossible, since humans are limited creatures, and how can a limited creature experience one of their emotions without any limits? It's like trying to contain infinity within a one inch cube.

Love everyone unconditionally ---- including yourself

What does the above mean?

Here is what Ken Keyes has to say:
Quote:
What is unconditional love? It is not, "I can love you if you do what my emotional programming--my addictions--says I want you to do." It is just love. Just, "I love you because you are there. I love you because you are part of the nowness of my life. I love you because although our bodies and minds may be on different trips, on the consciousness level all of us are alike in our humanness. We are one."

That may be your philosophy of life, and there's no way to argue against something since you're not really stating anything for me.

But I don't really buy it. I don't think I'm one with everyone else, because I can clearly see myself as separate from them. They have different minds and bodies from me and live in a different place in space. Their humanness is vastly different from my own. Why should I love something just because it's there? What's the point?

your life will be more difficult, by not accepting things around you you set obstacles for yourself.

Let's say you are in a room with 20 people, if you percieve them as enemies, you are in trobule: you are in a room full of enemies, if you percieve them as friends, you are having a party, all you need is drinks

I didn't say I personally saw no point in it; I'm asking you what your point is. Why do you love everything around you? Doesn't that take away your ability to distinguish that which you should love and that which you should not?

take a look at a close friend or a family member...do you accept them for who they are at this moment? Is there anything that they would do that would make you say "nah fuck them" Anytime you put a condition on a person rather than accepting them you create a gap between the person and yourself. When you love a person, the idea of "what have you done for me lately" won't come up, because you love them for no other reason but because they are here.

should you force yourself to? Unconditional love is more than just an emotion, it's a state of mind and being. To not accept someone else, or even yourself, is to mentally resist to what "is" This resistance is just a bi-product of the "sense of self" that we have developed, but's not our essential nature. To think with regards to the self is to put labels, to judge, and to resist, because let's face it, reality isn't going to give you what you want even half the time. In this way the sense of self has taken over, this is a state of mind

unconditional love is the total reverse of this, to not experience with reards to "you" but to experience with regards to all.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Natural selection would be an excellent master.

For example, loving the taste of cyanide unconditionally would not be good. Loving stable, beautiful women who will provide you with children would be.

My point? Well  It makes my life more fun, and joyfull, less stressful.
I have preferences.  I make choices. Just because I don't hate the drunk driver, doesn't mean I don't know enough to get out of his way.

unconditional love has nothing to do with survival.
Your techniques for survival are a separate issue. For example, you can unconditionally love someon ewho is attacking you, and defend yourself at the same time, by hitting him on the head rendering him unconscious.

the key part is how you judge, you can avoid a storm without judging it, or run away, or even kill a beast that wants to eat you without judging it and accepting is as it is.

As humans are no longer affected by natural selection if they stay within the walls of the city, they can chose any master they wish.

I think it does have to do with survival, since maintaining unconditional love when it's unnecessary would probably use extra and needless energy. Unless unconditional love actually increased the chances of our survival, which I concede is a possibility in certain environments, but I don't think that has happened based on the record of humans.

After all, many of the famous matyrs of the world are precisely those who held unconditional love, while most of the conquerers were those who were filled with hatred.

As long as an organism is mortal and reproduces, natural selection will govern that species over the eons.

In the short-term we can use what natural selection has given us and deny that it has done anything and claim we have a new master. But in the long term, evolution proves itself to no one; its truth lies in the effects it has, not in any praise it receives. The whole world could be ruled by creationist Southern hicks and natural selection would still go on changing humanity as always.

It is hate and anger that asks for extra energy, because hate and anger is a blockade in the system, and a blocked system is an ineficient system, which spends more energy.

Conquerers are those who are afraid to be martyrs, so they fight with all their power to avoid discomfort. In general, there is nothing wrong with seeking pleasure, but not when it is on expense of wellbeing of others. The act of conquering, is a process of escaping yourself further and further.
