walking report
    #4515085 - 08/09/05 06:24 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

there, i finally did it, I walked to one side of town, then back to the other far side of town and back home.

35 km , 22 miles. walked 7.5 hours. started in 3 pm, returned in 10:30 pm

I am not really a 100% healthy person, I've had trihinelosis (from darn sausages) which leaves pain in muscules until you die if you stretch them to much, I've also had problems with my spine and feet (flat feet) , so when you put all that together, I can't get far without pain in my feet.

On top of that, I had my old snickers on me, which had all fallen appart, and there was this peace of plastic sticking out on the back from inside that my heel movep up and down against, there was so much friction that it had made a hole in my socks, and that brings extra pain too

But I knew I must beat my record.
when I got the the other side of town, my legs were failing me, I didn't have any strenght in them left, and I really didn't know how would I get home, I almost lost hope in return, and I still had
about 10 km till home, I was walking the night streets like some drunk, zig zag, and every step was such a struggle.
Every muscule in my body was hurting me.

But I knew I must do it, I must beat the pain, no matter how bad it was.

I didn't sit down anywhere because I've tried once, and it was double pain when I tried to continue to walk. I knew If I sat down and rest for a half an hour, I would probably stay there because I couldn't move.

After I got home, It turned out I was right, after sitting for half an hour on the coutch, I could not stand on my feet, and could barely get  to another room. Good thing I didn't rest somewhere on the street.

When I got home, the rest was so pleasant, like nothing I have ever felt before, and watter, Jesus, it felt so sweet and cold, like finest nectar.

It was a very spiritual experience for me, fighting my own body, pushing it step by step, trying to isolate pain.

I've lost two kilograms in this walk, I didn't even know it is possible to lose so much in one day. Once I piss out all the watter than I drank on the trip, I should weigh even less

god , I'm going to sleep well tonight

any similar experiences from you guys?

It was a very spiritual experience for me, fighting my own body, pushing it step by step, trying to isolate pain.

Congrats, woddie!

any similar experiences from you guys?

I ran the Miami Marathon 42.2 kilometers (26.2 miles) twice when I was younger, and biked Miami to Key West and back in two days 400 kilometers (260 miles). I've also been 520 feet underwater on free scuba, 12,000 feet into a submerged cave, and I've jumped out of a 727 at 150 knots.

Each of those was a deeply spiritual, defining experience.  :sun:

Go to bed!  :mushroom2:

I once walked 45 miles through forest over two days with a 50 pound back pack. I do not want to repeat it though.

problems with my spine and feet

Try biking. It can be intense exercise depending on how fast you go, and it's low-impact, so it's easy on the bones.

I would have colapes probably.

One more thing that made it hard for me was that I was sitting indoors or driving for like 2 weeks before that

I walked up the hill behind my house for the first time a few days ago. When I was coming back down, I saw four deer, three bucks and a doe. The sight of them running in a line on the hill below a full view of the mountain was pretty spectacular. In particular, the big buck bringing up the rear moved so smoothly. It struck me how much more beautiful they looked in a natural setting as opposed to eating my lettuce and tomatoes!

I would collapse to now. Then I was about 20 years younger and it kicked my ass. Good job on covering so much ground...why did you do it?

I don't know, because it was a challenge and because I wanted to push myself beyond the limit of pleasure, to prove that I control my body and not vice versa, to get some mental discipline etc.
