one another, or, themselves? Or both? What do you reckon?

Dogs love, i'd wager. Based on their interactions with humans, they are without a doubt feeling something that would represent the pleasant feelings we get when interacting with family, friends, or lovers.

As humans are animals, you can answer the question yourself.

I reckon I cannot know. I have owned dogs for years. We bond, but that's not necessarily love. You would have to ask the dog and you can't. This would have to be pure speculation and usually that just presents your subjective beliefs without he hope of comming to any firm conclusions. :mushroom2:

You don't think that we're "more highly evolved" animals?

is the love a chimpanzee mother feels for her offspring deeper than the love an opposum feel for hers?

well, i dunno, but i suspect that we humans have more in common with chimps than with possums...

and as for birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, lampreys & other chordates... gettin' pretty distant on the ol' family tree, hehheh...

Now you are changing tracks. What is your definition of highly evolved?

I think we are more mentally ill than other animals. Is that "highly evolved"?

Other animal species have been on the planet 100 times longer. That is highly successful in evolutionary terms.

Our brain structures are very different.

I think that animals are better off also though.

Why does stuff evolve? To survive? What for? For the love of existing, or for no reason other than to exist?

Life evolves because it has no choice. It's either evolve or die. That is evolution.

Animals do love, seeing as humans are animals. Whether or not we're "more evolved" is just opinion, and is bound to be bias seeing as it's coming from the opinion of a human.

I believe other animals than us do feel love though, many other animals.

What motivates us to evolve? Surely we wouldn't care about dying if there wasn't something about living to strive for.

What motivates us to evolve? We aren't motivated to evolve at all.

When I say it's the options of evolve or die, I don't mean that's a threat or motivation that gives life a reason. Literally, life dies off just to leave those behind who match the circumstances. There is no motivation, there is only the death of those who are not right to survive.

We care about dying because if a human cares about dying, he'll put all of his conscious and voluntary energy into survival if need be. I think people just try to put evolutionary advantages like faith and motivation into natural laws where there are no such things.

Life exists and evolves for the same reasons stars burn and die; they have no other option. Life is molecules just like everything else, following the laws created in the universe.

Evidence?

What makes you think we're so much smarter than bonobos or dolphins? And we are animals, I don't see any distinction between the humans around me and the animals I've seen except for my own human bias and the fact that I can communicate with humans more directly. Humans have all the aspects of animals, due to the fact that we're just primates with shoes.

And humans won't survive longer than animals anyway I'd be willing to bet. We evolved from primates just like our relatives, the bonobos and chimpanzees and apes. It's just genetic variations that have allowed us to temporarily develop technology useful to our survival, but just because ants can build anthills it doesn't mean they're not insects.
