I agree. "Falling" in love with the wrong person might be a downer and painful, but "falling" in love with the right person can be a blissfully painful experience.

I say painful because I think when you are "falling" in love, you are giving away part of your soul, a piece at a time. But you are getting back the soul of another, one piece at a time. Then once the blending process is over, the pain subsides and you can get down to the business of "being" in love.

Here's the painful part of "falling" in love:

"Love is merely a madness; and, I tell you, deserves as
well a dark house and a whip as madmen do: and the reason why
they are not so punished and cured is, that the lunacy is so
ordinary that the whippers are in love too." ~Shakespeare~

And here's the blissful part of "being" in love:

"Some day, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire." ~Teilhard de Chardin~

(I think I've posted these before, but I love them both. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum of falling in love, I think. The agony and the ecstacy, or something like that.)

I have been in love and ruined many relationships by trying to hold onto something that isnt going to work. This little monologue sorted me out!!

Think of what frequently happens in relationships. So often it is only when people suddenly feel they are losing their partner that they realize that they love them. Then they cling on even tighter. But the more they grasp, the more the other person escapes them, and the more fragile their relationship becomes.
So often we want happiness, but the very way we pursue it is so clumsy and unskillfull that it brings only more sorrow. Usually we assume we must grasp in order to have that something that ensures our happiness. We ask ourselves: How can we possibly enjoy anything if we cannot own it? How often attachmentis mistaken for love! Even when the relationship is a good one, love is spoiled by attachment, with its insecurity, possessiveness, and pride; and then when love is gone, all you have left to show for it are the "souvenirs" of love, the scars of attachment.
This is best demonstrated by an experiment.
Pick up a coin. Imagine that it represents the object at which you are grasping. Hold it tightly clutched in your fist and extend your arm, with the palm of your hand facing the ground. Now if you let go or relax your grip, you will lose what you are clinging onto. Thats why you hold on!!
But there's antoher possibility: You can let go and yet keep hold of it. With your arm outstretched, then turn your hand over so that it faces the sky. Release your hand and the coin still rests in your open palm. You let go. And the coin is still yours, even with all this space around it!!! So there is a way in which we can accept that nothing lasts forever and still relish life, at one and the same time. Without grasping!!!

Love is holding her hair while she pukes.

Currently I'm in a relationship with a beautiful person. We'd been friends for almost two years before we decided to get romantically involved and just a few weeks ago we joined our souls. I think love is having so much trust and faith in a person that you're willing to let them become a part of you. Love is when life is no longer traveled alone. I almost feel like she is living through me and I through her.

I have considered such matters.

You never know when you're going to fall in it.

Then you have to scrape it off your face - ugh!  :nut:

True.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

every happening in your life prepares you for your soulmate. every relationship, every argument, every kiss. but you cannot find your soul mate until you find yourself. this means that you do not find this person by looking for them but rather by "looking for" you. meditation, or whatever key you have found to enter into yourself is essential. then, you must enter and make yourself at home. sweep out your fears and insecurities. scrub clean your actions and intentions. decorate your heart and mind. prepare your heart, mind, body, and soul, like you would your house, for the coming of a guest. and then, you will recognize him/her when s/he comes. you will know.

--------------------
Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.
