Grounding, Centering, general Chakra practices
    #401153 -

Who here centers? Or grounds.. or just generally is interested in the Chakras.. If you don't know what the chakra's are.. look here http://www.geocities.com/genijezz/chakras.htm Anyways, write anything that you have to say or ask about related to the chakras.. I just wanna see some other persons ideas and thoughts. - Jared

All I can say is that we must ground ourselves. We must clear our chakras of built up negative energies, and release kundalini energy in a healthy fashion.

I recommend this website: http://www.spiritweb.com

I also recommend this book: Kundalini and the Chakras by Genevieve Lewis Paulson

Heh, once again I will post one of my favorite web sites, in case any one missed it:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/ichantler/Palatium/
just cut and paste, I'm too lazy to use html...ground, center, and let it flow. damn it, I'm so lazy, I need to practice psi more often... I gripe and complain about how hard it is to trance, but then when I actually try, I get bored and give up after a minute or two... if I actually practiced every day, like I should be, it would only take a minute or two... damn my procrastinating style! anyways, lets start a discussion on this subject. swap techniques and what not(not that I really have any of my own), but anyway, tell me yours. peace

I find that the best way to ground myself is to take a big poo! By far that is the most grounding activity that anyone can engage in. I've done minimal reading on the chakras, I know essentially what they are, but their names are meaningless to me so I pay no mind to them. I don't think about it like "I'm stimulating my heart chakra" I just think of like I'm pulling energy into my chest. Fuck the fancy names.

I usually use a rooting/grounding excersize to ground my out of control energies. (most often anger)

hey bro,
the names are not exactly the point but the meanings
images, gods, sounds, colors, visualization ect
can be put to better use than just taking a shit.
of course taking a shit, can be a very grounding experience
but the point of grounding is to be able to take off.

Slap me if I'm wrong here, but as far as I know grounding holds two purposes. 1.)Keeping you from forgetting your earthly body and being lost in the other realms 2.) Affectively bringing you back to your vehicle after a spiritual/mental journey 3.)(so I lied theres three) Returning surplus, used, or unwanted energy back to the earth.

When I say taking a poo is very grounding, I mean that action as well as eating are the two most earthly of activities anyone can perform. The actions in and of themselves will ground a person to their earthly vehicle without even thought of it.

Yet another reason not to be my neighbor.

When i was in the monastery, my master was fond of quoting his. His favorite quote was: "Eat, Sleep and Shit, the rest is illusion." I don't remember his master's name, I was never a very good desciple in that regard, but it is a very true statement. We wrap our lives up in so many activities that we deem absolutely neccesary that we loose sight of what is.

I practice yoga daily, but I find that it most often puts me in a meditative state almost spontaneously. There isn't alot of room for concentration upon concepts such as chakras or energy centers when your mind is clear, and that is the way I prefer it. Too many concepts tend to cause more mental activity than not. Perhaps I am not stimulating as much 'chi' as I want to, or unleashing the fire serpent of Kundulini, but I'm willing to allow those things to happen in their own time.

I can't say this is correct for everyone, because it's not, just that if you're trying to cause Kundulini awakening (this I do know) so you can have 'neato visions' then you may be in for an unpleasant awakening. Literally. If you read any information about people's experiences with Kundulini then you'll read that most often they sound like hellishly bad trips. Mostly because they seem to have been generating Kundulini unawares of the potential or towards a delusional end.

Hopefully you take off your pants before you use that method to ground. Maybe you skipped a chapter?

I personally just eat dirt. And I run music loops through my head to center when I start to loose myself. Music is a machine. Music breathes my soul.

Well, I wrote a 222 page doctoral dissertation, copyrighted by University Microfilms International, 1983, entitled: 'A Phenomenological Adaptation of the Tibetan Buddhist Doctrine of Psychic Centers to a Metatheoretical Hierarchy of Human Motivation.' It was based on the work of the late Lama Anagarika Govinda's 'Foundations of Tibetan Mysticism,' and illustrated the parallel of each chakra on the ascending and descending path of the Inner Fire to the different kinds of motivation described by Freud, Adler, Jung, Frankl, Maslow, Rogers and a composite (multifaceted Diamond-Body). I also compared Hindu, Hopi, Kabbalistic and Taoist "chakra" systems, and explained why I selected the Kagyu Buddhist map. To my knowledge, there have been only 5 people whio have purchased copies (paper and microfilm), 'cause I received a royalties check for a whopping $17 and change. I tried to get Llewelyn and Weisers to publish it, but they said it was "too scholarly." Maybe another time. It was my 'life work' at the time.

I don't remember. Paper copy was pricier than microfilm. I suspect it approached $30. I wanted to shorten the title, and update, and remove my ex-wife's name from the dedication. I wrote it to be interesting and readable for those who might be interested. It was not real pedantic, but alas, much is published that is fluff (the website you suggested, I'm afraid falls under new-age fluff). The Foundations of Tibetan Mysticism is unsurpassed since it came out in 1961.

Well, no offense intended. The area of human development that included psychic or psi phenomena, is within the realm of the 'subtle body,' according to yoga philosophy and it is an intermediary realm, according to Ken Wilber, between the physical and spiritual dimensions. This is not anatomical, but functional. In any event, preocupation with paranormal phenomena is just an extension of the psychophysical, mind-body domain. For example, auras are fields that surround and interpenetrate the physical body, and are meaningless to discuss apart from the physical. On a basic level, so are the chakras, but they are portals into dimensions that transcend the form body, into which one no longer experiences oneself as a body. One can easily become fascinated with the subtle plane - it is the realm of 'ghosts' in the movie 'Ghost,' and the place of 'Hungry Ghosts' in Tibetan and Chinese schemes. It needs to be transcended, not indulged in. In Zen, all paranormal experiences are called Makyo, and are to be strictly avoided as they reinforce the sense of duality - not only a physical self, but now a psychic self as well. It increases the relative illusion, compared to the Unconditioned State. I have experience astral projection and have had 'ring-like-a-bell-in-the-head' telepathy on several occasions, as well as precognitive dreams. This is useful when one is coming from a constricted view of oneself as physical, but they are no longer expansions after one has experienced Unconditioned States, and tend to bring one's conception of self back to a more limited one. Magic falls into this realm as well. There is no magic without very solid ego and hence duality - me and you, me over you. One remains rooted in the lower chakra realms - the basement and first floor. Paranormal/psychic events represent the first glimmer of transcendence from the purely physical, and therefore the navel chakra in Tibetan yoga is most important as a starting place for such transcendence. One must first establish a central 'dwelling' at the heart center before making the further trips to the heights and depths. This means leaving the psychic domain as a center of identity for a center of spiritual identity, and the lifestyle that is implied by such a leap. Love over will.

Thanks for the compliment. What subject do you imagine I would've taught? I am a certified middle school science teacher in Florida (and certified in Bible, which of course I don't utilize), and work as a clinical counselor and substance abuse specialist. I do teach kids not to smoke using films and demonstrating subliminal ads and the power of peer pressure with little social experiments. I also use a biofeedback device and teach meditation to those who wish to learn 'stress reduction.' Just FYI.
