Happiness?

Ironically, the more we grasp at this thing called happiness, the more we chase after it, the more certain it is that it will escape us. We have misinterpreted, misunderstood both the cause and the nature of happiness, and then we have compounded the error by looking for the happiness in the wrong place, in the world, rather than within the mind! Our efforts are doomed to failure from the very first. Happiness lies not in the ability to satisfy our every desire, but rather in the ability to refrain from reacting compulsively to every craving and prodding of the mind. It is the ability to observe the mind dispassionately, to allow anything to manifest without our "buying into it," without becoming enslaved by it. There is little that can be done about what occurs to us through external circumstances. That is old, conditioned stuff surfacing. We need do nothing, except to observe carefully its arising and its passing away. We do, however, need to be very careful about how we react to it. That reaction, that mental, emotional, and volitional response, creates our conditioning for the future. The clear awareness of our feelings toward the arisen object or thought, unaccompanied by an automatic, self-interested, reflex reaction based in greed or aversion, begins to weaken the kammic bonds that hold us to continual misery. And practiced regularly, it provides insight into the workings of nature and of the mind. This insight, this understanding of the impermanence, ultimate unsatisfactoriness, and selfless nature of all conditioned phenomena quickly breaks the kammic chains and leads to liberation from suffering. It is the very core of the Buddha's Teachings.

I always find ways to be happy, in every 10 cubic meters of the universe there are a number of "triggers" that you can use to be happy. In case you can't find them, you can use your mind to make something else. Your mind is like the oposite of black holes, it is only thing that we know of that radiates reality out. It is a dream machine, you can make anything you want with it. Imagination is the limit.
There is always reason to be happy

Happy without a reason? It is called a "lobotomy".

But happyness always comes from within, not out, it's just that people aren't aware of that

Not when you talk about playing with chemicals .
I'm sure I can give something to everyone that'll make them happy as hell, despite their definition, albeit a shortlived happiness.

*Yawn*
Deny yourself the "without" (food, affection, shelter, clothes, car, computer, money, job, friends, herb) and honestly say you could be happy.

Have you met any? I can state categorically that 9/10 Buddhist monks that Ive met have been very happy and contented people. They aren't any of those things you said, they are often looked after very well by their monastery and the local people who support their practice. Please refrain from commenting on something you know little about firsthand.

EGGS-ACTLY! Their EXTERNAL physical needs are met. So what is the point? How does that demonstrate that happiness is within?

Swami, deny me all that, not just me but others, and with the right mind attitude in one year or half of year we will be happy as we were before
p.s. I don't use a car or herbs by the way

Why are the proponents of certain philosophies ALWAYS takling about others or what might b or what should be or what could be, but yet do not LIVE what they preach RIGHT NOW?
