PICS: irregular shafts
    #4014258 - 04/04/05 09:52 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

This is the first occasion where the shafts got all irregular and curvy. (maybe they just saw my Chihuly signature and wanted to be cool like that) The setup is properly lit by a fluorescent bulb two feet above the tub. Does the irregular shafts indicate less-than optimal growing conditions? If so what's the prob?

No signs of infection on the cake, no odd smell.

Also, some of the caps are dark-ish. I assume that's because misting water got on them and it stayed on a bit too long.

And of course the question: ok to eat?

Oh and they're obviously going to be picked asap. just gunna wait till you guys weigh in on it to determine if they go to the dehydrator or the trash.

Definitely okay to eat.

It could just be that the substrain grows gnarled stalks. They look fine to me.

Prisoner, you are referring to the shaft phenomenon and not the cap coloration?

both, one on the center is a little discolored but that may be due to getting wet
every thing is fine with those badboys, just try avoiding direct misting on caps
it can lead to bacterial blotch

My guess is your humidity isnt high enough because the shrooms appear to be growing towards the wet perlite (and soil?). Shrooms are surprisingly intelligent. GL
