Sounds to me like you got fried by kundalini energy. That happens to some who push or force its flow. People should just let it awaken naturally. I don't know of a rememdy for it either and I feel for ya. There must be one. I'll give it some thought and see if I can get something on understanding it and something to help heal it.
I will also post this question at another forum or two where I have some "energy body healer friends" and see what they suggest for this.

Hey jiggy, thanks for the help I've heard of kundalini but my scientific mind can't seem to allow me to believe in it. Seems like all the "alternative" things I've done (shrooms, meditation) have only caused me pain.

Please i urge you to go and see a Chinese medicine doctor. Chinese medicine has thousands of years experience with these types of phenomena. Western medicine is utterly useless with this type of thing. Try to do a google search and find out what chinese medicine says about your symptoms.

I just posted the question at a few other boards and will share any replies I get with you. They move slower then this one so it may be a bit.
I did a quick web-search myself because this topic is a curiosity to me yet, an area where my knowledge is weak on it. From what I read, people with it said it faded on its own in a few days.
Can you tell me when it started and how long you have had it? How long did it start up after the shroom trip? A shroom trip definitely could set off kundalini energy.
This may sound "far out" to you but a lot of people I know have been experiencing mild forms of what you are talking about (the hot and cold burn) along with a powerful gateway opening that happened on March 5th. A lot of karma is being "burned off" to help us ascend along with faster light vibrations.
Symptoms that came along with this one around the date have lasted from 2 days to 2 weeks for people.
If it's been more then two weeks, I would seek out an energy medicine practitioner. Like Red and Egg said, the eastern forms of medicine, like acupuncture will be better able to help you then western medicine because they do not recognize the energy body, meridians or kundalini, even though western medicine has the symbol with the rising serpent on it (kundalini energy). How ironic.

Hi Jiggy, I had my shroom trip over 2 years ago (March 7th 2003). I've had these burning/freezing sensation since then but it was milder (at that time it felt horrible, but in comparision it's much worse now). It has left for short periods of time (a few hours during the day) over the last 2 years but never been gone for a full day. It's been unbearably intense since the last 4 months.

Two Years!:whoa
Are you prone to anxiety or panic attacks? You might have a nervous system disorder as I just read that can cause it, chronic as it is in your case. If none of the other stuff everyone recommends brings relief then I would consider going to a regular doc for anxiety meds and see if that works. Prescription drugs are a last resort for me. I'll try anything else first. 2 years is to long to deal with that.
B vitamins are very healing and calming for the nervous system. It wouldn't hurt to get a bottle and take em. While getting them I would look for some Chinese herbs that are good for calming nerves too until you can find an energy medicine practitioner.
I would also consider calming type meditations and getting in lots of physical activity everyday to use up excess energy you may not be integrating. Any excess can put a tax on your nervous system.
Repressed anger can manifest itself that way. So can resistance to change and new ideas "new energy" as a chemical burn takes place during energy transfers and resistance to new energy can cause friction and friction burns to the nervous system also. Blocks in your meridians can be a cause of such resistance too which is probably why Red thought of acupuncture to open the flows again.
Qui, chi energy whatever you want to call it is integrated through the nervous system and our energy body system is directly tied to our nervous system.
In the mean time, it may be foo foo for you, but this article I found is calming and addresses the spiritual angle of this dilemma. You may appreciate some insight like this as you did come to the spirituality forum.
It's a nice read for any one! I enjoyed it.

lucid, I think you have to realize if you haven't already that the cause of your symptoms isn't entirely physical. This is why Western medicine can only do so much for you. It's focused, in a scientific fashion, purely on the physical. I see some non-physical possibilities causing these physical symptoms:
1) Your consciousness was unprepared for some feeling or information it came upon during your trip. Your subconscious may be in denial about something without your conscious mind knowing it. Thus a case of pent-up unreleased emotion or energy. Hypnosis may help with this.
2) During your bad trip, while in a state of great fear and with your mental guard down, one or more negative thoughtform entities attacked you and took up residence within your consciousness/etheric. They may be either causing the anxiety and feeding off of it, or simply feeding off of it while the anxiety stems from another cause. Not possession, but negative etheric attachments. These can sometimes be released through hypnosis, if the hypnotist has experience with such things.
3) During the state of higher consciousness induced by the trip, your basal chakra had become unbalanced and taken on a new baseline vibration. This will affect what levels of energy are drawn into the body. You may in effect be drawing in huge amounts of energy that you simply cannot handle or that your body doesn't know what to do with. This could account for the hot/cold sensation as that particular sensation, as is commonly known as a symptom of ego loss, is actually a symptom of passing through a higher-than-normal threshold energy level. I don't know what can be done in this case except extreme efforts to re-ground the basal chakra in tune with the earth.
I know this isn't conventional advice by any means but if any of these strikes you as a possibility you should definitely look into it.
Good luck.

There is no way one shroom trip did this...even poisonous mushrooms would not. They would just kill you and if they did not you would totally recover. You allude to previous marital difficulties and personal problems which are an indicator of another kind. I have a brother who started experiencing weird symptoms and blamed it on various things. The doctors told him he was in good physical shape, but the symtoms got worse over 3 years. At first he blamed his previously frequent marijuana use, but after 3 years he said he was the victim of mind control experiments and believed he should get a settlement from the government for it. He was then diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic. Over time he has learned how to handle this, and with proper medication AND DIET he is alright. See a psych doctor about this...it sounds very familiar to me.

all the docs, psychiatrists and psychologists I've seen have ruled out schizophrenia. They say it would be obvious to them if I did have it, especially by now after 2 years.

Nope they were going to put me in but I was terrified (and would probably have gotten much worse in there - it's like a dungeon...bare walls, no furniture, straight jackets, isolation), I managed to convince the psych at the hospital that I wasn't nuts, just in unbearable pain due to the burning/freezing, panic attacks and depression and that I would try an outpatient program (which they kicked me out of cause I missed one day - when I had the flu and had 103 degrees farhanite fever and couldn't make it to the place cause it's over an hour away by subway and bus and it was 20 below freezing outside and a blizzard).
