Re: Getting lucid [Re: quemo]

I think im starting to get the hang of this...

last night I was dreaming that I was riding around on this little black 4-wheeler type machine.  I dont remember where I was but eventually found myself in some sort of parking lot area. I want to say it was either around an airport or my university.    It was night time and the street lamps were on. I was walking along and I see this little boy just sorta hangin out.
Then I suddenly become very lucid.  very aware that I'm standing here in this parking lot.  and i think very clearly to myself "I have to find some writing to read to see if I'm dreaming"  but there was nothing around to read so I knelt down and began trying to form words with the little pebbles that are kicking around parking lots.  I don't think I was able to make anything coherent but I was still very conscious of what was going on.
Then I stood up and tried to talk to this kid... I asked him some questions I don't remember, and I don't think I got much of an answer, and then I woke up..

strange...  I don't know what to make of this whole lucid dream thing, im just finding myself very drawn to it.
and the weirdest part is I'm starting to lose distinction between being awake and asleep.
Well of course there is an obvious level of consistency when I'm awake, but as far as my feelings, and how I look at people and places, they are starting to become more abstract and dreamlike in very subtle ways.  I like it

I'm interested in getting lucid as well, i'm just wondering how it is done. I've read all the posts and tips, but as i was dreaming last night i noticed that i'm not really making choices in it, but more like watching a movie that i'm a part of, and even one part i had seen my hands cuped up catching something. Of course i woke up right then and there so maybe i was about to be lucid? I'm just wondering how I can go from watching the movie to participating in it, so i could think "this isn't right" because there were alot of things that weren't right, like people walking on ceilings, and a wall on a side walk that disapeared as we passed it, and reapeared as we passed through where it was, but it seemed i just took it as normal, since like i said i wasn't really thinking but just watching a movie.

I think what you have to do is constantly question reality. If you were dreaming and at the time you knew you were dreaming you would become lucid.
Therefore when you are not lucid in a dream as far as you are concerned it is "real"
You have to get into the habbit of doing reality checks such as looking then looking again at a digital watch, until this
becomes second nature and you don't even remember why you are doing. Hopefully this will trasfer over to the dream state and you will question you're reality again.
It will take time, best thing to do is write down all the dreams you can remember until you notcie patterns
(they will exist) such as scenereo, or dream characters etc.

Isn't it crazy how we dream of being at YOUR house, but it isn't really your house at all. In fact, you've never even seen this house before, EVER. However, you just accept the fact that it is your house and go with the flow. I will often wake up after a dream and think to myself, "what the hell, that wasn't my house, and that sure as hell wasn't my brother. So why did i believe they were mine while i was dreaming." The dream world is a bizarre thing, and i hope to use it to my fullest potential someday.

For anyone interested in this topic, i recomend you watch the movie "Waking Life".

Peace

yea Waking Life was a HUGE inspiration for me.. great movie.

tonight I walked in the university parking lot under one of the lights, and looked just like the scene from in my dream. and i knelt down and started playing with the pebbles like in my dream, and it felt just like a dream.
