Bad graft?
    #3884532 -

this loph was grafted late last summer, i was in a hurry when it was done and wasn't able to take care of it like my others, but it was doing fine for a few months.  I saw it a few days ago and one side of it is kind of spongy and wrinkled a little bit.  I didn't think the graft would make it at first, the reddish discoloration on the cut pedro surfaces (see pics) scared me, I don't have that on my other grafts, I noticed the flesh under the discoloration is also spongy and not hard like on my other grafts.  the button attached and stayed firm all winter though, until recently, and even now only it's only soft on one side.  the other seems fine, so far.

it's also possible that someone just knocked it over and bruised it a bit without me knowing, it looks kind of like the skin was torn or punctured there, but the discoloration and spongy feel still have me worried.  here are some pics, anyone seen anything like this?  think it'll be alright, or should I do some surgery next time I get a chance?  no laughing at the sloppy job I did cutting the pedro :smirk:

maybe it is some kind of disease or pest?
it seems unlikely that the scion would be rejected after such a long time.

hrmmm, I didn't notice any bugs or anything, the other plants kept a few feet away are fine. I'm not sure what diseases could effect them, but that's a possibility. hopefully it snaps out of it.

Degraft. Cut out the rot. Be sure that the blade is sterile for the last cut into non-rotted tissue. Regraft. Hopefully you will be able to save part of the scion.

I don't really think it's rotting. it's just not as firm as the rest of the button. the more I think about it, the more it seems it was probably just bruised while I was gone. i've decided to let it go a few more weeks and see how it does before I try anything drastic.
