>>I don't use rubber bands. Panty hose are sufficient.
I don't either, i too use Pantyhose (or a sponge and duct tape), I merely curious as to where rubber-bands of that nature came from.

No hes talking about the peyote. He did it about 20 years ago...and if you only cut the top of the button and leave the root it will regrow multiple head so whats the problem???? Its only a problem if you take the root and then your left with no more peyote .

Well, I've just grafted one of my little lopho seedlings onto a myrtillocactus geometrizans that I picked up at the local garden centre. The seedling was ~6 months old I think, and 0.8cm long by about 0.5cm wide. I used the usual tek ("stock plants were prepared by cutting the tops off and bevelling the edges. Then another thin slice was cut off but left on" etc etc...), and the scion was secured in place using tape and a small bit of padding to stop the scion from getting stuck to the tape. I wanted to graft the lower half of the lopho too, but the vascular ring on the little myrtillo was too small to allow it. Then I cut the bottom off a bottle, and placed the top half of the bottle over the graft to keep the humidity high. The other cacti in the pot are a trichocereus spachianus, and an opuntia stenopetala. I intend to graft onto these as well, mainly because I'm curious about which of the trichocereus and the myrtillocactus will give better growth, since they are two of the most commonly mentioned grafting stocks (although I know it would be very unscientific of me to draw any conclusions from such a small number of test subjects). I may or may not try a graft onto the opuntia, I mainly got it because I thought it was a nice little cactus . Also in the photo you can see the little lopho's brothers and sisters in the black pot at the back, and the hydrogen peroxide, a dilute solution of which was used to sterilise the craft knife that I was using to make the cuts. Anyway, I intend to remove the tape in two or three days and then gradually harden it off. Wish me luck!!
