I was just wondering, what are the duties of a mod, and how do I apply to become one?

Basicly the way it works is if there is a spot opening up in a forum, we usually ask people who frequent the forum to let us know if they want to moderate. Then we choose from that group.

Oh ok... Well, I frequent most of the forums in the "Mushrooms and Mycology" section. I also visit other forums such as trip tips, general questions, etc. Anyways, if you ever need a new moderator, please consider me. I usually visit the shroomery several times a day. Do you actually have the gall to say I am doing a bad job as a mod? Point out one post that needs to be taken care of in my forum? One that is against the rules of the shroomery or has degraded into a bitch fest. One post where I have caused problems anywhere on the board. Then tell me I am not doing my job. If you are refering to the number of my posts on the entire board. Just because I am a mod do you expect me to post more often on this site? Are mods supposed to post twice as much as they did when they were just regular members? If so you have quite a chore ahead of you if you want to become a mod. I post when I have something to say....it's as simple as that. To become a mod I didn't seek out the job and rip on the job other mods are doing. I was suggested by multiple people for the job and was asked by Thor to be a mod. I never lobbied for myself. I don't have to justify myself to you but I have done so as a courtesy to Thor, 3D and the other mods. I did it so they don't have to. You know when you complain about other mods on the board you are complaining about Thor & 3D because they are the ones that picked them. Do you think Thor and 3D are doing a bad job too? Karen

Yes, I'm sorry Karen about saying that you're not doing a good job. What I should have written is that you weren't posting frequently. After writing the above post, I realized that a good mod isn't necessarily a mod who posts frequently. I'm sorry to all of the mod's that I "flamed", I will go and edit my above post now...

Jesus Karen....settle down there killer. It's a common theory around here (and everywhere online) that you should know a lot about the topic and post a lot to be a moderator. I don't agree with it, but it's widespread. The masses want you to post all the time, answer every question....but never close anything. Or they want you to close everything. Hehe.

On a further note, nobody seems to realize that just because you don't reply doesn't mean you're not reading. People thought I disappeared the last couple of months....I just didn't post much. I couldn't read as much because I had a full time job at an overnight camp. But I was here. :)

CJ, Karen was reacting to what Shiznitz originally said about some moderators, he mentioned that Karen was not doing a good job or something to that effect. He edited it out after Karen responded to him...

I read it in its original state, just didn't reply til now. I believe he was stating something to the effect of Karen (and other people mentioned) weren't around much. If that had been about me, I would have replied with something simple: "I'm here, yo, just don't post that much". I suppose I should lean more towards the "different strokes for different folks" mentality though. After all, my reaction would not necessarily be the best reaction. Who knows.
