 Do you want to be a moderator?

Instead of posting an election, we have decided it would make more sense to have people first of all tell us they want the job, and then pick from those who want to moderate instead of the normal election which is pretty much a popularity contest....
So here's what I want.... Tell me why you want the job, tell me you'll be here often to check in on your forum, and of course tell me what forum if any you want to moderate...
I am looking for peolple who first of all care about this place, want to actively help out on a regular basis, and I think most importantly have a level head.
So after about a week, we will look at the candidates and make our decisions.... We might have 3-4 moderators in each forum to test that out... We might also have some people moderate in a few different forums......
So who wants to moderate?

I'd like to help Moderate. I want to help maintain the community. I feel, at this time, The Shroomery is in a spiraling demise, and I want to help change it. I have been coming here for some time now( a little over a year), and I like it!! Love it would be more like it, but I am getting very frustrated with the way things are turning. I realize that the Moderators can't be here 24/7 and realize they can't read EVERY post, but with some help you could clean this place up and maintain our sacred community, and quite frankly I want to help.
I care for this place. I try to help others out and get along with all, even when attacked by some young punk. I can maintain my cool. I have made a lot of really great friends here and I don't want this place to turn to shit, or worse, dissappear all together, because ,quite honestly, I have no where else to go(lol). Seriously, though what would we do if that happened?
Well, instead of worrying about that, I want to help prevent it.
I would gladly help you guys keep and eye on the whole place--but I would feel most at home in Advanced Cultivation and Cultivation Forums. I check them out for a short time almost EVERY morning and always 2-3 times in the evening.
If you do not choose me as a Mod.,that is O.K. But, for the love of our community pick people that care as much as I do about the future of The Shroomery.

i wanna moderate, i have a high-speed fixed connection.
i read practically all posts and participate in all forums. i realize im a jovial sort with a tendancy to stray from seriousness frequently. but this just follows my role as a poster. with the responsibility of moderatorship i would be more serious.
i dont beleive its too dificult to tell when a post is off-topic or a problem. and i dont think i should have to say much, just lock it or move it and say why in a post if i think its nessisary.
there is however alot i would let go. im not the kinda guy that would overdo it and kick around evrything slightly off-topic or contains a slight overuse of people throwing the word "ignorant" back and forth.
i find that alot of threads, given time, will come around and right themselves, particularly if a moderator is present to be a mediator as well. :)
so ya. i pledge myself. the rest is up to you.
i like mushroom hunting, but id say its already well moderated. i dont want to put any moderators out of place, so what moderator positions are open?

Thor..I would like to help moderate any forum on here. where ever U think I would be best at. I am here everyday usaully for a couple of hours, sometimes several times trough out the day and night. If I had to choose a forum that I would like to moderate then it would be spore exchange are spore vendor, mush cult would be nice as well, but really I would be happy to serve anywhere on the board. I disagree with the previous post about the shroomery being in a spiral dimas are something, I don't think that's the case at all, I have seen it calm way down since U and mjshroomer took over as admin. U guys have made some good changes here and it's kind of more on a level playing field with U guys as admins, we knew U before and it's kind of more of a friendship type bond here now.
If of course I was selected as moderator I would approach posting info in a different light, if I had something bad to say I wouldn't say it at all because I realize that if I wanted people to respect me as a mod then I would have to respect them as an individual as well.
anyway, I don't expect you guys to choose me, but I am willing to step up to the plate and be in the batter's box if You will allow me too, thanks

I'd like to be a moderator, preferably of the Spirituality and Philosophy forum, but it's taken care of pretty well right now, so if not that, Political Discussion or even OT would be cool.
Reasons why? Well, I'm here constantly anyway (cable modems are cool), and this has been my favorite site since I found it almost 1.5 yrs ago (read for a while before I joined), so there is no way I'd do anything to damage it or take away from its integrety, etc, etc
As I'm pretty open about most things, I wouldn't abuse my power or any of that sort of stuff, as longs post stayed away from pointless flame wars, they do usually turn back towards topic, as Michnast said.
And I'd get to have one of the cool "M"s by my name in a flag. That's the main reason...

Taz you are right... The Shroomery as a whole may not be in a spiraling demise, but the two forums I would like to Mod. are(IMO). Did you read the post by the 7th grader in the Cult. forum? It was titled "cop questions". If you did you know what I'm talking about. The Advanced Forum is no longer filled with the expertise it used to be. Lots of the experienced people have been ran off by "Basic" questions and young punks that know absolutly nothing about what they are talking about trying to tell everyone that is experienced how it is done. There was a post asking "what would happen if you mixed spore pollen?"-- Is this an Andvanced question? When I replied " I'm not sure why such a silly-ass question is in this forum--the answer is, Nothing. Mushrooms do not utilize pollen." It caused the original poster to fly all to shit and wage a 4 day war on me, and even go as far as to tell me I was wrong and had no idea what I was talking about.
These things, along with MANY others is what prompted me to say that. Jesus, that 13 year old KID is cultivating Pan Cyan.
Can you imagine what could happen if he suceeds? Let's say he eats 5 grams to get some"killer visuals"---Whew!!
I don't care who is chosen as long as they honestly care about the future of this place.

I would really enjoy moderating Mushroom Cultivation, since that is the area of most concern. I do not know a lot about the subject matter involved but I do have experience moderating and can easily spot problem threads. I stand behind my reputation and hope to be found worthy.

i wouldnt mind being a moderater.
i read every post in other drugs and otd.the spirituality forum is kind of over my head and im not into cultavitaing.
id like to moderate otd because i spend a lot of time there.
i wouldnt delete any post and the only way that i would lock a thread is if there is enough of a demand,or if it is spam,somebody trying to sell drugs or anything illegal.
i spend probly 4 hours on here every night and twice that on the weekend so i wouldnt miss much.

my humble opinion on how many mods are needed per forum:
cult 3-4
adv. cult 2
gen questions 3
hunting 2
other drugs 2-3
spirituality 2
political 2
gathering 2
media 2
vendors 2
trip tips 2
edible 2
I suggest minimum two for all just because one person will go away for awhile....ones with lower traffic can definitely overlap.

I would love to be a moderator. I spend about 2 hours a day on this board. I am knowledgeable in many subjects relating to mushrooms and would take pride in returning the shroomery to it's glory days. Thor or whoever is running this competition please consider me I would give great effort to were ever you put me. PM me is you have more questions

3D and I really wanted to get out of moderating, especially mush cult since its so busy... So he picked 2 people right away to fill that spot.... Its a welcome relief for me and 3D to get out of moderating
But the week thing still applies, some might moderate a couple of forums, just depends on how many qualified people offer up their services... I'm also wanting to see just who of the current moderators still looks at the board, so if you are currently moderating and still want to moderate you better reply to this post.. Otherwise I'll assume you don't frequent the board enough to be a moderator.

I'd like to moderate the Political discussion, well if your going to have more then one mod there anyway. I wouldn't want to step on Agent Cooper's toes!
I've been lurking around for three or four months, reading the tek's, and various forums. I signed up about six weeks ago(probably haven't been around long enough, what the hell, doesn't hurt to try!), because I decided I had to get into some of the political discussion!
I'm pretty into politics, so it would fit me well.
I usually pop in at night for a time before I hit the sack, and sometimes in the morning, so I have plenty of time to make sure things aren't going haywire.
I'm pretty loose with my censorship views, I'd let pretty much anything go other then blatant off-topicness and uncalled-for slander, (in an intelligent discussion, name calling has no place).
That's my case, and I'm stickin to it!

Only one problem. I'm Senor_Doobie and I think you appointed Senor Doobie. They are both my handles but I prefer to use Senor_Doobie because of the underscore. You can delete the other one for all I care, but I'd appreciate it if you changed it so that Senor_Doobie is the mod.

I realized that we needed someone right away to replace Ripper and LuciferX.... So I gave dioze1 Adv Mush Cult and I added gourmet/edible/mushrooms to mitchnast's forum....
bivalve replaced LuciferX in Off Topic as we discussed before, but we still need one more me thinks for that forum...
Don't worry, there are plenty of spots still open..... I think mjshroomer will lose his moderatorship since he's not often here anymore.... I'll ask him first just to be sure....
For all current moderators please respond to this post if you still want to keep your position, if I don't hear from these following people I will assume you don't want it, or just don't have the time: Psylosymon, Ojom, Phluck, georgewashI like CJ's list, I think that sounds right for the amount of moderators per forum.. I used to take people too serious on here now I mostly try to ignore ignorance unless I feel some newbie is about to get misinformed. ok, i was viewing the shroomery as a whole when I posted I thought it was getting better, you were view a certain area that you like the most and that's ok to that is great. and you are absolutely right about the experienced ones getting ran off so to speak. anyway, I would be happy to be a mod even if it was the least popular forum. (less visited) I do hope they put you in the cult forum, it seems to me that is where You really want to be and you would do good there. Thor.. Aw, damn.. I just saw this thread...
I would love to have mod priviledges. If you check through my posts, I think you'll find me to be generally helpful and respectful.
The main reason I'd like to have privelidges would be to fix non-linking URLs & pics. Whatever you need, though.. Can also help w/ server programming, SQL, etc..
Let me know if I can help.

I'd like to co-moderate the advanced forum or the other drugs forum......
i spend every day at least few hours....
I don't speak english very good but i'm sure u can do a good job.....at least locking illegal threads and moving the OT threads to the right forum....

Thor. I would be more than happy to moderate for the media forum if you need another person. First of all, I just love The Shroomery and I really care about it. I consider it my home on the web. Sure I've only started posting recently but I've been visiting here and using the fine resources for well over a year. I try to contribute in the forums when I can and I always make a conscious effort to stop misinformation. Finally, I am a communication arts major-- I study media so becoming moderator of the media forum is something I would really like to do. Just let me know if you need my help.

i wouldn't mind being an OTD mod if you are really looking for one more. i'm on here about 2 hours a day. i've got a high speed connection. i read every single post in OTD, sometimes even twice if there is a new response before i log off. i doubt i'll ever delete a post entirely, but i will lock it if it contains requests for illegal substances.
i also really like your 3 or 4 mod idea, it should make the mod's job a lot easier.

Ok, heres the updated list..... I went a little crazy and did a lot of cleaning house, a whole bunch of new faces in the moderator positions, I'm excited to welcome all of you aboard.....

yo this really is not intended as an insult to the fine people who have agreed to be mods...
but
in some ways, mods are like cops. if you want to be one, you're not appropriate for the position.
just my humble opinion, flame all you want...

Hola fellas, I realize that I have not been around for years but I feel that I try to maintain an enjoyable attitude here. I am very opposed to the malicious flaming around here. Don't get me wrong, constructive debate is always beneficial. I spend almost all of my shroomery time in the "mushroom cultivation" forum. It looks like you have filled all the spots in there. Perhaps I might be kept in mind for the future. I believe in mushroom cultivation forum being a place for amicable sharing of cultivation expiriences. I get irritated with rediculous threads like "Can I grow on my own shit" and similiar rediculous crap like that! I read some people in this thread earlier mentioning that they would act different if they were made a moderator. I am less inclined to believe this. I feel that your personality should be well established before you are made a moderator. Someone who has a history of flaming and causing shit is not likely to make a paradigm shift because they are made a moderator. I am also not a believer in the idea that the # of posts one has in any indication of there expirience. Anyone can rack up post with one and two word diaharrea. I am concerned with occasional evidence of young kids on here. Some kids you would never know. Perhaps these young people are at a reasonable maturity level. Others are obviously kids and there IP addresses should be blocked. I do not believe in 7th graders messing with psycadelic drugs OR any other drugs for that matter. With few exceptions there minds are not mature enough to be shaded with these expiriences. One needs to learn some responsibility in there life before indulging in irresponsible (but fun) things. I believe in cultivation as a hobby and a means of focusing your energy. The fruits of your labor are fun too! I frequently get a little disturbed with the unnecessarily foul language. I am a trash mouth in my own home, but this is a forum shared be many people. Keep you foul mouth shut! It is a sign of immaturity if you cannot express yourself without sounding like a sailor. I have always tried to give advice with the best of my knowledge. I also have always tried to put an end to rediculous posts or flaming. I will continue to do this whether I am a moderator or not. I have been enlightened by being able to be a part of the shroomery. I try to be on here as much as I can. I appreciate all of you here who are interested in making this forum a good place of for us all. It is a hobby that is worthy of noting! It is too bad that the evil empire feels that one is bad if they indulge in it. Those people need to go into the forest and eat copious fungus! Thanks for the opportunity.....

Thor, If that last OTD position is open, I'd love. OTD is one of my fav's and I read ever post on it. Spend the bulk of my time there and Spiritual and Political. Have high speed connection. I don't believe in deleting threads altogether, but I'd lock it if it got too bad (attempting to sell illeagal substances would do it, as stated above).

thanks thor & 3D,
dirtmaster, being a mod is not being a cop. we need rules that need to be followed and respected by all so everyone can come here and enjoy the shroomery. Yes, I know rules suck, but we have to have them. this place would be in total caos if we didn't. this is a community when a lot of people come together as a community, certain rules must apply in order to keep the peace.
I didn't want to become a mod to push people around, and police people, as long as people conduct them selves accordinly then there is no need for intervention on my part. are any moderators part, but the bottom line is that we all know thru experience that this is not always the case. that is why there is moderators here to make sure that we all can enjoy these boards. not just a few, but all peoples.

I humbly offer my services to the Spore Vendors forum...if you check my posts, you'll see that I am level headed and always contribute intelligently to whatever topic is at hand. I spend most of my time in the advance and a bit in cultivation, but those are already very well spoken for, by cultivators who are lightyears above me. That is not to say that I am inexperienced. I have been here for almost 2 years, and want to see this community regain the vitality and dynamic essence that it once had. I hope the change in administration and now moderatorship will contribute to this cause.
As for why the spore vendor forum...I have carefully followed the series of wars that have recently occured here in the last few months...first between hippie vs. others, then cakes vs. casers, then cap'n max vs ryche, then captain max vs ralphster and mcman. I see the need for debate, but such debate should occur in this forum, not in the threads themselves, where they lead the thread off topic.
I will not use my moderatorship for censoring, only directing. I will not lock posts arbitrarily, but i will not be afraid to use this ability to keep the community on track. I hope that this combined effort will help make this place great again.

Anything left in Other Drugs? I pretty much read it daily, unless something comes up, and I generally keep up a helpful non-flaming attitude. I read mush cult and spore exchange 3 or 4 times a day. I'd be glad to help anywhere though, this place has a great thing goin...

Tell me why you want the job, tell me you'll be here often to check in on your forum, and of course tell me what forum if any you want to moderate...
I would like to be given a chance to moderate General Questions or the Spore vendors forum.
I want the job because i'm here everyday and i am pretty diligent when it comes to my commitments. I enjoy this site so much that it wouldn't be work as much as it would be fun. I also like to view the posts that are from different people, however, i don't always agree with them but is still informational.

I would like to moderate...I can be opinionated, but am always fair(and can enforce rules when needed). I have a good amount of experience both good and bad in experimentation(which I feel makes one more subjective)...and most importantly, I have a genuine care and concern to help others succeed. LOL, I'd say I'm an empath of sorts!
I have a high bandwidth connection, and am on at least a few hours a day.
The forums I visit and personally enjoy the most are:
Cult.(love lending a helping hand there whenever possible)
Adv. Cult.
Vendor(extremely unbiased on this front...capitalism at its finest)
Exchange(very supportive of this concept)
Gen.(my best Trivial Pursuit category)
Off-Topic
Other Drug
Trip Tips
Political Discussion(I'm very into politics, much to my friends' shagrin...watch Politically Incorrect religously)(maybe Agent Coop needs a Crossfire partner..lol, the Mary Matalin to my James Carville??)

I would love to be a moderator, maybe of trip tips. I believe with the experiance, and knowledge of researched information and helping people all the time with questions of negative and positive aspects. I do not have all the answers but I can sure help, I am almost always online, I jump through all the forums to see what is said and personally I know I am not the brightest but I will give honest effort

wow, he really dug this up.... if you need mods, I would love to mod in other drugs, the pub and otd. I am here all the time, I visit the shroomery at least a couple times a day. I always try to help out the newbies in odd and in all other forums I post in.
The pub might need some help, due to the new permissions, everyone who just registered (not to mention any old trolls that made new puppets) will flock to the pub, as it is the only off topic forum available to them.
