1600grams of rye spawn - how many tubs to spawn with ?

hey!

so this spawnbag here, wwighting ~1600grams of rye, is approaching its end.
estimated time to 100% is like a couple days.

heres a pic:


so, i got two tubs here, measuring 16 x 10 inches / 40 x 24 cm which
i want to mix up with a straw (supafine shredded) / dung mix about 3-4 inches deep.

would the spawn be adequate for these two tubs?
how many would you spawn with the given ammount of rye?
hoping for input :smile:

Ohm,

Here comes the metric-man! :lol:

40*24*10 = 9,6 liter.

Assuming your bag is 1,6 liter. Then you spawn 1,6 to 8 bulk. (1 to 5) If you incubate at high temps I think you will be just fine.
You could also decide to make the substrate layer not 10 centimeter, but 8.

Then option 2:
40*24*8= 7680
1,6 liter spawn = 6 liter bulk

In my short "straw-career" :wink: I found that quick colonisation is very important.

Id go for option 2...... :thumbup:

LOL now I read 2 tubs.....

Option 1 then would be (per tub)
0,8 liter spawn to 8,8 liter bulk. That would be 1 to 11, not my choice.

Option 2 then would be (per tub)
0,8 liter spawn to 6,9 liter bulk. Makes 1 to 8,6 liter bulk.

Ofcourse if your 1,6 kilo rye is more or less then 1,6 liter, the ratio changes.

If you would do 2 tubs with 3 inch (7,5 cm) total layer (1 to 8 ratio then).

But again, just me, I like ratios like 1 to 4, so I will not soon spawn 1 to 8 and would choose for 1 tub with 8-10 cm of total substrate.

I think you need a bigger tub.Like 50 gal.Should do two of em.

hmm interesting input.
i decided to upgrade on the ammount of manure and downgrade the straw.
prolly will end up as a 50/50 mix abour 2-3 inches deep.

i guess i can do two tubs this way.

I'd go with two tubs and an overwhelming amount of innoculant.

I personally go by volume rather than mass.

2 inch (i take 5 CM)

24*40*5 = 4,8 liter

0,8 liter spawn
is 0,8 to 4 = 1 to 5

Is fine is 2 tubs! :laugh:
