PsC, rye spawn, coco coir...

what are some experienced opinions on mixing coco coir:verm(40%:60%) and innoculized rye grain... it will be in a perilite tek aquarium and the idea is to only use 2 cups of innoculated rye grain. the miture will be allowed to colonize the coco:verm and then another layer of coco/verm will be added as a casing. will the coco have enough nutrients for it to be beneficial to mix it with the rye spawn?

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

why bother? for a bigger surface area? deeper 'substrate'?

better to spawn into dung/straw, and save the ingredients you mentioned just for the casing layer. i'm someone more experienced than me has some more input on a possible benefit from basically diluting your substrate, but i can't think of one.

I don't thik coco coir or verm have much, if any, nutrients at all. They are usually just used as a casing layer. They protect against contams because they really have little nutrients to offer.

So to answer your question: No.

Use dung and/or straw
