Quick rye spawn question.

Hi,
I'm going to be starting some eq spores in rye jars soon. My question is how wet should the rye be? I also figured I'd soak the rye for about 8 hours, then drain before sterilizing it so that they will be wet all the way though. Is that a bad idea?
