Not really.

I know someone here is experimenting with Shultz brand "vermiculite substitute" as a casing material. It would be interesting to try it in place of vermiculite in a BRF cake.

Vermiculite is also out of season. It's usually really easy to find in spring/summer, but not fall/winter. That could be pharm's problem.

The substitute in question was Shultz Moisture Control. He's gotten colonized cakes, just not fruited them as of yet (not that i've heard...).

I'm sure if you look hard enough, you can find yourself some vermiculite. I found some, but it took me about 3 weeks and alot of phone calls and shopping all over.

I found some at home depot 2 weeks ago. Mycosupply has it and everything else if you can't find it around home.

No, I'm not talking about the polyacrylamide crystals.

I'm talking about some Shultz stuff that he used for casing. It's touted on the package as a substitute for vermiculite, but it's made out of a clay substance.. looks like jagged pea gravel.. It's in his thread.
