Verm works nicely, peat seems a tiny bit better but I've never tried casing these with coir so I can't speak for that but I know some people have amazing results even without a casing.

But yeah I and many others use verm straight outta the bag with great results:muppet:

Yeah man coarse it is! I've used fine too and it works pretty decently but the coarse verm works better ime.

I got them to fruit but barely... So this is what I've got - a random mess:lol: another one is opening the cap by now though and imma be honest, that's the best cluster I've had:uhoh: the dark ones are ready for harvest but the rest there needs plenty of time still:lol:

And I'm not certain about xalpa... I just remember the name being thrown around but I could be wrong.

Interesting how different growers are seeing different forms of tres soles. Two had mentioned caps not opening. Must be environmental?

My caps have all flattened out (I do like the bell caps too before they flatten). Mss all fruits similar so far, a few screwy stipes but otherwise little variation.

I tried to pop this cake out to help that fruit but no luck. Probably fruit will get nasty. Idk I'm just going to let her be. I'd be more concerned with this jar if I didn't have a successful jar also fruiting!

I did a 50/50 on mine for the first flush but recased with coarse verm straight from the bag, and pins set up just fine on that.

In my observations, (hvc anyway, and tried with zap tex) semp seem to love the little microzones made by the verms chunks.

So coarse verm allows for bigger "nooks and crannies"/ tucked in spots- these form primordia like crazy.

For zap Texolo, and other semp going forward, I tried putting a light but compressed layer of finer verm to cover any exposed coir, and then put some coarse on top. Pretty good.

A sentinel fruit, checking out the landscape before the others arrive. It’s about 15 cm. There’s some green that sprung up so quickly, it must have been in the spawn. I’m going to watch it since it’s pinning so generously.

The pins busted out before I hand a chance to case it. There’s some coir pseudo casing that I thought would colonize. I have three other trays not yet fruiting. I cased them  before full colonization.

The spawn was inoculated Nov 2025. I was going for myceliated grain but I got bored looking at the jars. The bulk is pure coir.

Yes it looked dry at photo time. I’ve upped the spray game. It’s in a water tub.

They are looking a little wispy to me. Do you have any pics of your grain jars? I mean you did make it 2.5 months with only 1 tub getting the green so I can't see it being too nasty.
I had one culture took 3 months to put out a super small flush of about 7 shrooms, then it popped a good flush every month for the next 7 months. Maybe you got the same one and have another 2-3 weeks to wait. Do you see any solid looking bumps, like a bigger knot anywhere on the surface? Is your surface drying to where you need to mist? Maybe more FAE?

Anyone try a beef punishment on semps before?

No pics of the grain jars unfortunately, but i didnt detect anything out of the ordinary.

I don’t have an exact measurement, but it should be between 65-70f.

So the remaining tubs never progressed past this point, and they all died the green death. I'm starting to think the genetics were bunk, but I'm trying again with a new culture. Either way, they're slooowwww. Definitely not of the variety that some people have found that progress at a decent pace.

What's everyone doing with these right now? I have 8 shoeboxes going. 4 of them
are pretty much shit, with side pins and aborts all over the place. The other 4
haven't pinned yet. This is the only halfway decent one in the bunch.

Damn Asura, sorry you've been against frequent aborts and sidepins.

My tub 'Camel' put out 6 flushes but very recently showed signs of fungus gnats. So I retired it to the compost :salute:
Wanted to keep it around longer.

The one multispore 'Ecco' on a higher HWFP substrate FINALLY its surface stripped/ cleaned up and got fine & coarse verm applied a few days back. Recovering nicely.
:prayer:
These are always 11l tub, like halfway between shoebox and big mono, run ez dial type but with an extra lower hole nearer corner (4 a side).

I keep these holes taped on a new box till full surface colonisation, then put on the field capacity verm. Of if I'm feeling slapdash even put the verm on dry, dsitribute and then mist the fuck out it.
By the time the verm is on though, all holes are untaped. I grow in a small space with little air flow. I open and mist the tubs as needed, day to day, but until they are a majority more fruit than pin they can just rock alone I find. I mean, probably even after that but I have them out to ogle anyway so I spray them and shake them or whatever

What I am doing: working with a few clones and a small multispore grows. About to take another tissue clone I have in the fridge from when 'Camel' was still around.
Hoping Ecco is allowed a proper/ meaningful first flush!

Honestly, I can't recommend the full verm pseudo enough. Perhaps scrape back a few of the shitter tubs and give it a whirl?

Looks like a pretty good second flush to me. The yield is usually the same but the fruits are always bigger on the second flush for me.

Sometimes these bastards pin like fucking crazy everywhere you don't want it... Packing the substrate helps but not entirely which is also weird since the substrate usually doesn't shrink.

Also are you sure they're aborting and not just being slow? I've had pins which came at the same time but some finished over 10 days later than the rest and grew slower.

FYI that tote in the picture is still going strong and producing fruits since March this year:awesome:

That's the problem...it's a first flush

So, you guys are doing multiple flushes with these? I mean 6 flushes is crazy.

What's the yield like? Are subsequent flushes putting out good weight?

I've just been doing one-and-done with all mine.

I had one little tub 'Eldad' last a year, I think it gave 10 flushes then got trich cos I "resurfaced" it using an unclean fork...
:huxleyfacepalm:
I shouldn't have expected much more from it anyway, just a shame for it to go out like that. And in retrospect- according to my IRL mycojournal- it was not a multispore, rather from a tissue clone.

the_chosen_one has had them go 18-24 months!

If the conditions are wrong, flush 3 could be modest- then you resurface, or soak, or do whatever it's needing to be happy, and flush 4 could come through heavy again!
Really I find it's about giving conditions to get them to make a lot of primordia then simply keeping them watered.

They still side & bottom pin like crazy for me sometimes.

Generally, I'll stash fruits from the first few and end up inundated but I never get a flush that wouldn't give at least a few good trips, and I had some from around a 4th flush on christmas eve lastyear, they were still good and magic!

Saying that, I never tend to judge them by weight that much, being that one solid flush will give you a full dry jar of haunted matchsticks for your forseeable.
:oogieboogie:

I'm certainly of the opinion that they are worth much more than a 1 and done. Sometimes it takes the first flush of mine to really put out a load of spaghetti ones and then 2nd flush they will come often through sparser but chunkier- and with happier seeming morphology.

P.S only judge them aborted if they display a very black cap, they can be deceptive, in a bout 3 years now of growing them I have only had them abort once, this january, it ws from being way too dry.

Lithop answered your question really thoroughly so I don't need to add much but I have 2 old totes I'm trying to push to the limit with and this one was spawned in May and has pushed several flushes since (no idea how many)

This is the one with all those side pins and apparently its spawned around January- February it seems.

Last flush it had looked like the side pin tote I posted above and this flush has massive noodle fruits but only a few.

Yes I know they need more FAE:muppet: but I am just far too lazy to drill more holes so I'll be enjoying my :ramen::awesomenod:

These have only 4 holes and the new ones like the one in my sign have 8-10 holes. They work much better and get straighter mushrooms.
